I picked up 6 Brewmaker Shire Mild 1.6KG beer kits at my brewshop for $25CAD. great deal. One good reason i bought these, was because i brewed previously a batch of Brewmaker Scottish Heavy. Honestly the best kit i've made thus far.
Anyway, i'm wondering about this Shire Mild. Is a shire a style of beer? or is this an Ale? or what exactly is a Shire.
Thank you.

Hmmm, never heard of it, but I believe the word to be English...
Maybe it's what Hobbits drink??

Webster's lists "Shire" as a county in Great Brittain and also as a breed of draft horse. I suspect that this is the name the manufacturer gave to this recipe. I also suspect that the style of beer is a mild ale. I've found references to this style in several of my beer books, all agree that it is a form of British ale, brown in color, quick to make and low in alcohol. One book says that mild once meant "new" and that it should be aged as little as posible.
