i have this to say: stodbrew is WAY too modest...WAY. ok, you're in norther california...where do you go? two words stoddard's brewhose in sunnyvale. as a former chef, the food is good...as a homebrewer and beer conniseur...the beer is freaking phenomenal! the okto was great, the ipa was great (i concur with stodbrew, more hops), the esb rocked, the apa was awesome...i coupled the porter with fish (catfish...something, i'm sorry, californians still can't do right) and it was awesome. had some green beers (scotch ale and kolsch) that are going to be really damn good (the kolsch was still too green to tell, but while not among my favorite styles, stilll gonna be a damn good beer).
stodbrew is an awesome person to know (as is tweek, jinja, and starsonstage...met them, too). he brews some really good beer at his establishment. and i mean some really damn good beers. the scotch ale (when done) is gonna be really big, so be prepared...but still in style. the esb is a high on the malty side, still in style, and really a good beer. his okto is to die for! wow...and to think just 2 weeks ago i said most american brewers couldn't brew an okot/marzen on this board!
if you find yourself in CA, go to his place! he'll treat you right. just a few stops on caltrain from SFO.....but if you smoke, be prepared to go outside, it is CA afertall :p
