Might be old news to some, but it's a sad, sad day for all. Check this link from BeerAdvocate:

Another one bites the dust...

But there´s still plenty of small breweries around here so it doesn´t really hurt me that much.

Well, that certainly sucks - I wonder what this bodes for Dinkel-Acker bottling and export as well as Löwenbräu (owned by Spaten)? Not to mention Franziskaner. I did a little web-digging, but couldn't find much more info on the purchase.

If the Spaten biers show any sign of big change, I hate to say, my allegiances may have to switch to Paulaner...

Oh, and Sturm, until I'm your next-door neighbor - screw you. ;)

Here's another recent note on the merger on yahoo.com.

Note that three more breweries are being swallowed including
Dinkelacker-Schwaben Brau and Mauritius. I know nothing about these other breweries on that list. Does anybody?

Actually, I think Dinkelacker-Schwaben Brau is one label.

It is, they make my favorite German style Pils, as alluded to above.

I'm not sure just what ownership Spaten (now SInBev) had over them, as the Stuttgart brewery still made all of the local beer, but Spaten certainly helped their popularity by flexing their export muscle for them.

Don't know anything about Mauritius. Too many conglomos these days - I'm moving in with Stahlsturm.
