OK.... time to vote. Everyone knows the drill by now.

If you really have no idea what we're doing here, send me a PM and I'll fill you in on the details. Only requirements to participate are that you have to have AOL Instant Messenger, you have to be available @ 4:30pm Eastern on the 9th, and you have to be POLITE to everyone while you're in the chat room. Please only vote if you REALLY plan on attending, or you've attended in the past. If there's a beer that I didn't list in the poll, you're welcome to mention it here and see if you can win on a "write-in" vote! :D

Oh yeah... this poll will close itself on Wed. the 29th. I'd like to give everyone 10 days to find the beer we pick. Don't dillydally - get voting!

Somehow I managed to leave off Pumpkin beers and Lambics, which were also suggested. I'll try to get steveh to alter the poll to include those two options.

steveh
09-23-2004, 03:11 PM
How's that? Oh, and I didn't realize I could do that...and also alter the votes if I wanted to! Bwahahahahaha! 750 votes for 1845... ;)

Talk to brewmonkey about it... he'll remember how to do it. In the meantime, just post a vote if you're really interested in either of these styles, everyone!

But does it tell you who voted for what? That would be the ultimate power!

Yikes!!! My wife just reminded me I'll be up in Maine that weekend. So I guess I'll not be able to participate in this one. Darn! Shall I recind my vote. Steveh or Fret? I can PM what it was if you want to remove it.

you should tell us what you voted for and then we can have another poll about that...by the way, are any of those 1845 chads dangling? we may need to get some FL vote counters in here :D

Can I change my vote? I just found the DFH Shelter in my area tonight.

Here's another idea: Maybe we want to postpone this one until the 16th, since there are so many of us (steveh, chaz, anyone celebrating Yom Kippur) who won't be available. Thoughts?

Bruno_78

That's the 25th of this month, isn't it?

Yeah, the P.U. tasting tomorrow is coinciding with Yom Kippur -- the undecided Oct. 9th tasting is clashing with the Quivey's Grove Beer Fest...where they may have 3 Floyds' Dreadnaught again, another religious experience.

I don't see anything on my calendar for Oct. 16th...except Boss' Day. On Saturday?

I probably can alter votes, but let's see if we want to reschedule first (BTW - my vote went to Chimay Blue).

16th would be much better. I vote for the change too. I voted for DFH Shelter.

Stodbrew

The 16th would be better for me, too, as I have a wedding to go to on the 9th. And by then, I should have my laptop working again, too. I had to vote for Fuller's as there is no DFH beer anywhere near me.

Maybe that should say "dang laptop!" :D

Which ever day we choose for the tasting should be good for me. The problem I'm having is there's no DFH or Fuller's 1845 around these parts. I've found several other Fuller products but not the 1845. I asked about ordering they said they would try.

b3s
09-24-2004, 09:29 PM
and liquid solutions, while carrying most DFH products, doesn't carry shelter pale and while it carries a couple of fullers, the 1845 is not offered.

For tomorrows tasting could someone with a laptop and a wireless internet connection find a saloon that serves PU on tap join us from there? Might be kinda cool to get keg vs. bottle input. Just a thought.

well, i have all three, except i don't have wifi access from that bar :(

that's a good idea, tho, i may need to go warchalking!

fretlessman71
09-25-2004, 03:14 AM
What in the world is warchalking?

b3s
09-25-2004, 12:00 PM
basically walking around with your wif setup searching for WAPs (wireless access points) and marking them with chalk on sidewalks or buildings...different symbols for different strengths and accessibility.

you must be one of those musician types, huh? ;)

there are ways around it. make it a non-public network so that you have to type in the network name (that gets rid of the poseurs) then turn on at least WEP and require a password. that keeps out most of the rest.

This is the LAST DAY you will be able to vote - so far Chimay Blue is in the lead. PLEASE don't vote if you really don't plan on attending... if you've been to one in the past, then that's fine.

Since we've moved the date to the 16th, I may post a second poll and just have the top 3 or 4 as options. Whaddya think?

corysdad
09-29-2004, 12:26 PM
When is the polling closed and the official beer assigned for analysis?

fretlessman71
09-29-2004, 12:29 PM
I originally set it up to end TODAY, to give people 10 days to get their beer. Since we're moving it to the 16th, though, I might create, like I said above, a "best-of-the-best" poll with Chimay Blue, 1845, Dead Guy, and maybe DFH Shelter PA. Thoughts?

fretlessman71
09-29-2004, 12:30 PM
(I'm also beginning to suspect a little tampering with the poll... steveh, did you cast a vote or three? ;) )

Gosh, I've been unable to attend the first 3 due to scheduling conflicts, and don't know if I'll be able to participate in this one either. I have Twins playoff tickets all the way through the World Series, so I may end up going to a playoff game that day. If there ends up being no game scheduled, I'd like to paarticipate. (Unless of course the wifey comes up with some other chore for me.)

Take the top three and re-poll or we could just taste all 3 during the next three sessions. I voted for the Shelter but Given a choice between Chimay Blue, Rogue dead Guy and 1845 I definitely have a preference.

Does salty = expensive? It should be cheaper than 2 pints of good beer at a bar. I think it is $7 for a 750ml around here.

Bruno_78
09-29-2004, 05:00 PM
We're up over $10 here.

b3s
09-29-2004, 05:36 PM
in lieu of re-polling, i'd go with what we did the last time...top two vote receivers are the next two tastings.

the real question is...if it's chimay blue, do we go with the pint bottles or the 750s?

nope. i can't believe you'll install that msm crap on your system and not aim. aim can be uninstalled and leave no residue behind, whereas computer virii are easier to remove than msm.

actually, i would have gone for a different belgian myself...i'm still trying to track down the ever elusive westy 12! (and i prefer chimay's tripel over the dubbel).

well, like Dave, I've managed to miss all of them so far... I voted here with a clear conscience, and THEN read about this impending date change. the weekend of the 16th I'll be canoeing down the St. Croix River with the Boy Scouts... so, if someone wants to discount one of the Chimay Blue votes, go ahead...

(last year on the St. Croix canoe trip we saw over 70 bald eagles... it's an amazing fall trip...)

So, two questions....

1) For those of you who voted for Chimay Blue, is there any particular reason you picked it over red or white? I'm getting the distinct impression that it's not quite as good as some of the other offerings (and so far, NO ONE has 'fessed up to voting for the Blue at all!).

2) If we do decide to go ahead with this for the 16th, what differences would there be between the pints and the 750ml bottles? Are they conditioned differently?

danno

Aren't the 750's cork finished and the pints capped? I think that should make some kind of difference, right?

I voted for the red based only on its lower ABV - and I'd probably buy the large bottle, and being away from home when we taste...

i voted for the blue as well. i much prefer it to the red, which ive never found to be very interesting or flavorful. i do like the white pretty well though. plus i feel like the blue is probably easiest to find of the three with red being a very close second and the white a little harder. the blue ain't a bad beer in my opinion, and it might be ok to get a group together to decide if it is overrated or not.
