The county next door has a hop festival every year. The central NY region used to be a big hop producing area. The soil conditions and good transportation, canal and rail, helped to make this work for the region.
It has been going on for 9 years now. This is the first year I ahve been able to go. They have hops and hop related merchandise. Of course there is a beer tasting going on at the event, more on that later. They have old hop farming equipment and a well versed hop gentleman gives a slide show talk along with scale models of a hop barn.
The tasting is of NY beers though Dogfish and Yuenling were there. I finally got to try one of their IPAs, the 60. My wife found that she liked the Yuenling lager. She is not a big hop person so moast of the beers were not for her as the brewerys tend to bring their hoppy beers to this festival.
It is held outside. They had a polka band playing and with the weather we have here today, should not have said that, it was a good time.
There was a group there called the Norteast Hop Alliance. Here is ther web site
