Kansas City (or anyone else who wants to chime in).

Is it just me, or is Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat in the bottle NOT nearly as good as on tap? I wish they would have never attempted bottling this beer. Part of it's lure was the fact you could only get it on tap and that tasted great! It's still fairly true to its form, but something about it is just off (and yes, I'm pouring it correctly).

What are your thoughts?

**side note** The Boulevard Brewery is the best brew tour I've been on - ever.

Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat may be sightly better on tap than in the bottle, but overall it is a poor example of the American Wheat style. Boulevard is a wonderful brewery (especially the Bully! Porter) but IMHO is much too conservative. Sasha, their brewmaster, has much more talent than the investors realize. The need to allow the crew to bottle and sell the beers that they experiment with (they brewed a wonderful Trippel one time). They are the 2nd largest brewery in Missouri, but other breweries such as McCoy's (Westport) and Schlafly (STL) are making the bigger, better beers that cater to the few instead of the masses. When Boulevard comes out with an Imperial Stout, I may rethink my statement.

IMHO Bully Porter is Boulevard's best brew. The Tenpenny's not bad too.

If you cross the river into Kansas, in Lawrence Free State Brewery has a good wheat and if you're up for the drive Blind Tiger in Topeka.
I'm not sure if High Noon Saloon in Leavenworth has a wheat.

High Noon brews a Honey Wheat and a Raspberry Wheat and in the summer they do either a American Hefe or a Hefe Roggen (whim of the brewer) when it gets hot in August.

Does the 75th St. Brewery sell outside the metro area? It seems if I don't go there I can only buy it at some bars.

The Sunday paper, either Lawrence Journal World or KC Star had an article about Boulevard expanding. I forgot which since I get both papers Sunday.

I have not seen 75th's brews for sale "on tap" anywhere except at their on-site location - take that back - you can get their beer on tap at Barley's Brewhaus:

Barley's (http://www.barleysbrewhaus.com/)

You can, however, find their raspberry wheat bottled for sale at many liquor stores around town. (metro - area)

You can also buy it in growlers on-site:

75th street brewery (http://www.75thstreet.com/beers.htm)

You may already know this, but the 75th street brewery is part of an ever-growing conglomerate of brew/beer/pubs around town:

KC Hopps (http://www.kchopps.com/)

I've been to the blue moose and tried their brew "Moose Drool" - it's bad - try a sample, don't buy a glass - it does taste like moose drool - (more like moose p*ss). Luckily their food was very good.

Most recently I've been to Fentons - they have an excellent Amber Ale - I would highly recomend it - they served it on special the night I was their - $2 per pint - so hopefully they will do that more often.

Side note - the 75th street brewery has the best Fish and chips ever!

LONDON'S BEST FISH 'N' CHIPS $9.95
Flaky filets of Atlantic cod coated with our crunchy wheat ale batter, served with seasoned rough-cut fries, cider slaw, traditional tartar and a bottle of malt vinegar

If you guys need any info on the KC brewpubs let me know. I am the Head Brewer at High Noon Saloon in Leavenworth and also the Vice President of the Guild.

Sasha at Boulevard is a great guy but he is not the Head Brewer. Stephen Pauwels is the Brewmaster and is a born and bred Belgian.
