Anderson Valley's Brother David's Double Abbey Style Ale. Comes in a 22oz. bomber with a wax seal over the cap.

Poured a tobacco brown into my ommegang goblet and shows red highlights in the glass. short light khaki head that went away pretty fast.

smell: bread and sugar, like toast and tea or something. pleasant and a bit winey.

taste: hrmm, this is a bit disappointing. There's an unremitting sourness that takes over the malt. There isn't the luxurious softness and malty depth I expect in a dubbel. A bit too much alcohol and a little metalic tasting. The sugaryness isn't even that striking. Bummer. could be a bad bottle I guess, but I dont know.

I've perhaps criticized Anderson Valley before for being a pretty normal brewery, as in they didn't produce anything too out there, and when I saw this, I had to give it a shot. The thing is, they make a great IPA, a nice amber and a good oatmeal stout. Belgian just doesn't seem to be their forte.

Anderson Valley has some very solid brews. I often overlook them in favor of newer offerings that I have not tasted. Anderson Valley beers have long been available here in the DC area. The owner once held a tasting at the Brickskeller and I once visited the old brewpub. (The one with the tractor seat bar stools)

How does Anderson Valley compare with Sierra Nevada? I've seen their beer around but never tried it...

i really enjoy their hop ottin' IPA when I'm in the mood, though it's definitely a west coast offering with lots of hops. There amber is ok, though it's not one of my favorite styles in general. And I remember their oatmeal stout being pretty good, though I haven't had it in a long time. I get the hop ottin' on occasion though and do enjoy it. I recommend staying away from the brew i posted about tho.
