All this talk of Dream Trips & Realbeer Conventions has got me RealBeer thirsty! I just wanted to remind folks (like you needed a reminder) that Oktoberfest Time is just around the corner and if planning a trip, ya may wanna start planning and reserving hotels and such. Cincinnati Oktoberfest (http://www.oktoberfest-zinzinnati.com/) has quite a variety of events starting 9/18/04 and I think runs till 10/2/04. (See link) And then there is Minster Ohio Oktoberfest (http://www.minsteroh.com/oktschedule.htm) that starts on 10/1/04 and goes 3 days. I live 15 miles west of Minster, home of Wooden Shoe Beer/Star Brewing Co. now in the history archives of RealBeer.com. Minster is on a much smaller scale but a good time anyways. I plan on hitting them both since Cincy is only 2 hrs south of Minster. Do a Goggle (or other) search and you will prolly find a Oktoberfest near you.
I just bottled my Okto Homebrew. :cool:

Both of my sons live in the D/FW area and we are trying to convince each other which state to go to. Addison has a big To-Do with Oktoberfest too and many other places in TX but I can't go that far right now. Fredericksburg is a big'un too! I'll be there in Beer Spirit! :)

Fast_Eddy: "Yeah, being moderators makes us the resident stud muffins, right? She CAN'T resist us now..."

Actually, Texas is a hotbed of old German immigrants! I only learned that from reading the great George Fix.

When you curse at someone you usually use "Du" and not the more formal "Sie". Getting personal is the idea behind swearing after all, hehehe.

This surprised me
Excerpt from Handbook of Texas Online (http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/GG/png2.html)
Germans. The largest ethnic group in Texas derived directly from Europe was persons of German birth or descent. As early as 1850, they constituted more than 5 percent of the total Texas population, a proportion that remained constant through the remainder of the nineteenth century. Intermarriage has blurred ethnic lines, but the 1990 United States census revealed that 1,175,888 Texans claimed pure and 1,775,838 partial German ancestry, for a total of 2,951,726, or 17― percent of the total population.

Considering Schein can translate to bogus, pseudo, quasi, or even sham -- maybe! :D
However, Scheinen can translate to just how it sounds in English, gleam, so the folks at Shiner would probably like that a little better. ;-)

Is that a pseudo gleam in your eye, or are you just happy to see me? :D
well, even tho fret stood me up :p (yeah, i know, rehearsing for a paying gig takes precedence), i went down to larimer square in denver and watched the tapping of the first keg of oktoberfest. pictures are at http://homepage.mac.com/bsturgen/PhotoAlbum47.html
WRT the big coors light signs...as the saying goes, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain! it's not MY fault that they have them as a sponsor!
// edit
oh, the picture where the keg was actually tapped? the ONLY possible picture for that...that was the third attempt, there were others...that was the ONLY time where she hit the tap and the faucet DID NOT fall off!

CRAP! having probs getting all of the pictures on my website...i'll post another link once i get my hosting problems resolved.

Sigh....
I'll be missing the Fredricksburg OF this year. I have a niece, by marriage, who is getting married that weekend. I have been informed by my wife that it is in my best interest to forgo a trip to the southern climes and stay and attend the wedding. Go figure....
