As usual ( for Stone ) it's a normal beer on steroids. Basically a brown but very full flavored. I prefer other varieties but for what it is it's fine. I'm sure many will like it.

i agree completely, and am glad to hear someone else say it: i think we (me included) have a habit of raving about it every time Stone sneezes, and it's nice to see a more balanced response.
the 8th Anniversary is a solid brown, good, and even better than most bottled offerings i can think of, but: it's not as good as a very good brewpub offering of a brown, and certainly not an amazing brown (or Mild, as they sort of claim it to be in the bottle text.)
interestingly, Stone is usually prone to more full bodied grain bills, and hop profiles, and doesn't deliver it this time, and this brown is lacking without that added punch. obviously, some of the grain bill is increased to get the high OG and FG, but it's just not... all that. (on the other hand, just after the Anniversary, i finished a VERY nice Ruination before writing this, and so reminded myself of what Stone can do when it puts its mind to a nice high gravity style.)

I'm here.
I like to take the summer off, so I have been lazy, and I haven't logged in for a few weeks. I am too busy going to Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and Portland. I have tried over a hundred beers this summer, and I need time to recuperate.
I am game for almost any weekend get-together, and I have several beers that I would be willing to bring for your tasting pleasure. Lucky B's is a good place, but I need to get down to Costa Mesa soon, so the Goathill would be good too.
Anyway, I'm here, and I'll try to check the boards more often now that summer is over.
Later Days.

I hope it's not Dale Brothers. They have been underwhelming some of our local establishments with weak offerings...

I finally cracked mine open...
The 8th Anniversary pours a light reddish brown with a thin brown head that quickly goes to a small collar.
Its aroma is roasted nuttiness, coffee and chocolate.
The flavor is sweet, yet heavily roasted, caramel and chocolate malts with some nuts and a little smokiness. It has a dry bitter finish (grassy hops) that is at just the right level. The alcohol is well hidden. It is a little on the thin side and a little under-carbonated.
Overall, a fine brown ale with a kick.
just drank mine last night...a really decent brown, but i think i would still say moose drool was better.

All right.... THAT TEARS IT...
..I'm getting some more of the Drool next Sunday, and if I still don't like it Beaver and b3s get the rest. Deal?
i don't know what to think...on one hand, it would be nice to have another moose drool convert...otoh i wouldn't mind having some moose drool since i can't get it near me...

So where'd you move to? Further up and in to the mountains? If you're not too far away, we'll have to hook up at some point... :)
as much as moving further into the mountains appeals to me, i moved a grand total of three blocks from my old apartment in lakewood...only now the bank and i own the condo as opposed to that whole renting thing. definitely going to have to hook up...any plans on attending GABF? what about oktoberfest? i was planning on taking a bus from work to oktoberfest to catch the tapping of the first keg, perhaps drink a few beers, and head back home.

Forgive the "out-of-the-loop" guy.... which Oktoberfest? The only one I know of is the one they have on Pearl St. in Boulder (assuming they still have it, that is)...
oktoberfest on larimer square in lodo -- been there since 1810.

Yeah - I just found it all by myself, and there you are with a link to the same page! Cool! Actually, I DO plan to be in Denver this Friday - I have a rehearsal from 12 to 2 at the musician's union, which isn't too far from Larimer Square. When do you get off?
well, i'm planning on being down there for the tapping of the first keg (which is at 1800), but i'm having a bugger of a time finding a bus route! i'll have to call rtd tomorrow and have a human help me out as their web site pretty much sucks.
i'll PM you with more info. perhaps meet up around 1700?

It's a good possiblilty. We're prolly gonna float around there to see what there is to do during the day before they tap stuff. You still need some Moose Drool? Should I go make a trip?
that's a 10-4 on the moose drool if you can get it and it's not a bother. my g/f should be in town sometime next month, so if i ask real nice she might carry some on the plane...even money i get any of the beer ;)

It would be a kindness to say that their beer tastes like piss. Probably the worst place I've ever been to. I went with a friend last summer because it was so close to my place. They had 5 beers to offer, and I got the sampler. I choked down the IPA, but the rest were like drinking beer flavored water, and I just couldn't do it.
I will never go there again.

Ouch. No, really, don't hold back. I seem to recall the exact same thing from a few years ago when they just started. Too bad.

Welcome back. Yeah, no real Ofest for me either. Found out Lucky B's had an IPA festival not too long ago. I had to settle for belgians  All I know is that Pizza Ports strong ale fest is on Dec. 3/4. I KNOW I'll make that.
