I just got back from St. Augustine. I had the opportuinty to have lunch at the A1A Ale House. I have been there a few times now.

I find the food to be very good. I had a nice salmon dish this time. My wife had a BLT that had crabmeat too. It was very good. They have a banana split for desset that is a two person job if I have ever seen a sundae I could not eat alone.

Ther beer is good as well. They had a well done Hefe on tap. I have a hard time with reviews but it was worth the trip in fro that beer. Their signature beer is an amber called Brick Red Ale. It is hoppy for most ambers I have tried, and that is not a complaint. Their brewer has been doing their beers now for 2 years which means he was not there the first couple of times I visited. He had homebrewed for a number of years before hooking up with A1A.

I find the staff to be friendly and well versed about the beer. I have found some brewpubs were the only thing about beer the wait staff knew was how to spell it. I did have a bartender blow off a question one time at A1A though. They had stopped selling growlers. I needed beer to take to a family gathering and had planned on their beer. I asked if she knew where I might be able to purchase some good beer and she said no. I then asked if she might know which of the staff would have that knowledge ans she said no and left me. I must repeat that is the only negative encounter I have had there. I will visit again when I am there.

I was there a few years back (98 I think). I remember the food was good. We ate a few meals out on their balcony looking out over the harbour. Very nice. I remember the beer was decent if pretty standard brewpub stuff. I'd go back. There was another pub that was English in name and style and had a few decent imports to wash down the roast beef. I think it was called the kings head, a few miles out of town.
