View Full Version : Dayton Alefest.
Great time coming to Dayton. This is an annual event. It is held in a pleasant, outdoor location. Try to make it.

No Foolin? Dayton drinks REAL beer? Whodathunk! I'll prolly be there but the little lady won't go (hip-hip) cuz of the heathens in the downtown area. So I'll have to find a designated driver cuz I can't pack, drink & drive. :D
Celebs? Dayton? Are we talkin Ohio? The only Dayton celebs I can think of are Johnny Bench & Pete Rose. And I'll betcha Pete won't be there!
DreamWeaver, I got my wife talked into going. Carrilon Park isn't that bad of a spot is it? She likes beer, but will be the Designated Driver. Not sure what they mean by "celebs" either. Newscasters? Politicians? Anyway, they probably wouldn't be able to tell one beer from the other. I'm looking forward to all those beers in one spot!

Dayton does get it's share of bad press but I think they've earned it. I'm bummed that I missed the event at WPAFB instead of Carillon Park... which is sometimes referred to as Crack-Pipe Park when public events are absent. I see there is a shuttle from one of the bars but then your car might be gone when ya get back. I'm sure the event will be interesting though & I plan on attending. My wife won't be going (thats not a bad thing is it?) so maybe this will be a chance to expose my brother-in-law to some good Craft Beers, OK, Craft Beers anyway. The $30 ticket should keep most of the brown-baggers out... I said most cuz I might just be one of the guyz with a brown bag!
A charitable event for Diabetes Ass'n so...Drink Up!

Any idea what breweries will be there? And cask ales! if I lived in the vicinity, I'd be there. We'll expect a full report from both of you.

That would be my first question as well.
I'm not sure, but if Heidelberg is involved (as they're listed at the bottom of the Alefest web page), it sounds like this isn't necessarily a beer festival with breweries present. Heidelberg is the largest craft beer distributorship in Ohio (although they also do Coors, Labatt's and many other forgettables), so my guess is that they'll be pouring beers from breweries that Heidelberg represents. For example, I know in my area (about 2 hours north of Dayton) Heidelberg carries lineups from Great Lakes, Sam Adams, Goose Island, Victory, Anchor, and Sierra Nevada - to name a few domestics - and imports like Chimay, Hoegaarden, and others. Sounds intriguing.
I picked up a brochure at Belmont Party Supply a couple of days ago. Belmont has a good selection and is owned and operated by beer guys who drink and brew beer. Anyway, I lost the damn brochure, but I was impressed by the line-up of breweries represented. I believe there will some cask ale also.
