...Imperial Stout. I just tapped the keg and poured a 6 oz. sample of my first attempt at this big beer. Mmmmmmm. :p It didn't ferment as dry as I thought that it should but it sure tastes good. By my calculations I got about 8.5 - 9% ABV. The flavor profile is sweet with a lot of roasted, almost burnt taste, to it. All in all not too bad for a first run. I am going to be giving this batch to a friend. I'll start on one for myself in June to be drinking in the fall.

Here is the recipe as I brewed it this time:
10 lbs light malt extract
2 lbs wheat extract
2lbs 40 L crystal malt
.75 lbs chocolate malt
1.5 lbs roasted barley
1 lb black patent
.5 oz Cascade hop and .75 oz Fuggles hops (60 min)
.5 oz each Perle and Cascade (30 min.)
.5 oz each Perle and Cascade (10 min.)
I pitched a British ale yeast that I harvested from a batch of IPA

OG 1.092 FG 1.035

Mash grains for an hour or until full conversion is achieved. Sparge to boiler and then proceed as normal.

I am planning to mash more grain and use less extracts next time. Also, going to use a more alcahol tolerant yeast to try to get the FG lower.
