Richard, I have a friend that will be in England in the next few days and has agreed to pick up some beer for me. Can you give me some suggestions of some beers that are not imported to the U.S. but available in bottles that I should try? Thank you for your help.

Happy to help but my problem is really in not knwoing what's not imported into the USA, not what's available here!

Fairly widely-distributed bottle-conditioned ales that I have not heard mention of Stateside include (brewery first):

Coniston - Bluebird
Hop Back - Crop Circle
Wyre Piddle - Piddle in the Hole
Wadworth - Strongest Ale
Pilgrim - Springbok
Pilgrim - Pudding Ale
Hog's Back -T.E.A (plus several other BCAs)
Gales HSB (plus seceral other BCAs)
Hall and Woodhouse (Badger) - Cornucopia
Archers - Golden Bitter

Obviously you will already know about such excellent beers as Fuller's 1845 and Young's SLA.

Few of the nationally recognised bottled beers (like the infamous Newcastle Brown) are worth bothering with.

If you are in any doubt as to whether a beer is bottle-conditioned, just hold it up to the light and look at the bottom of the bottle to see if there's any sediment.

I hope this helps.
