any north carolinians out there? if so, you might be interested in checking out this website: Pop the Cap (http://popthecap.org/)
it's a group working for the repeal of an archaic and obnoxious law still on the books in this state preventing the sale of any beer over 6% alcohol by volume.

if you live in WNC, you ought to attend a beer tasting/benefit for this organization at barley's taproom in asheville on august 14 (details on the website).

Good idea. The mideveal state of Ohio finally got rid of the 7% law a year or two ago.
Now if Penn. could get rid it's BS laws about selling beer....

I think it was Florida that did it last year, and some TV reporter did a "comparison" between Bud and Samichlaus (14%), he and an assistand each drank three beers and "reported" the effects, plus had their local law enforcement officer running the breathalyzer...

it was pretty hysterical watching this guy get drunk (three Sami's and I think you'd have a hard time not slurring your words too...) My (and lots of others) peeve about the story was, however, they never mentioned that a 4 pack of Samichlaus costs as much as a case of Bud, so it's not a very cost efficient buzz..

I used to get email / news from Pop the Cap. I think it is a good cause and I encourage those in the socially retarded states to be politically active. Lobby. Write letters. It does sometimes work. We managed to change some of Virginia's old laws several years ago.
