So much for lager-talk, eh? ;)

Düsseldorf Altstadt, 4.5% ABV - bottled on 14/04 (I'm going to assume that was April of this year). Very unique, long, thin-necked, brown, 11.2 oz bottle - shaped like a potato masher with a flip lock cap.

The Alt pours a clear, copper brown with a thick, white to tan head - which settles quickly to a soap-suds cap.

Caramel malt nose with mild hops back, mild diacetyl with warming.

Sweet and smooth caramel malt flavor with the slightest of smokiness and butterscotch diacetyl back. Light hop tang in the finish.

Medium body with a smooth, nearly creamy mouth-feel.

Nice drinkable beer - very smooth and very reminiscent of ESB, though probably made more mellow through cold lagering after primary fermentation. This is the same "new Alt in town" that was premiered at Chicago's Real Ale Fest on tap (10 liter gravity fed keg). As I recall that brew from the time (albeit, 4 months ago and after some other, very flavorful brews), I remember some off flavors; overly roasted and some mustiness present, and I think I actually like this bottled version better.

I picked up a bottle of this in Baltimore a few weeks back. I was more impressed with the bottle than the brew. It wasn't bad, just wasn't overely interesting.
