From the July Real Beer Newsletter:

BOULEVARD BREWING PLANS MAJOR EXPANSION
Boulevard Brewing Co. in Kansas City is planning a $15 million addition that would increase its beer-making capacity more than five-fold. The brewery has grown 15-20% annually for the past eight years, and it expects to produce more than 85,000 barrels this year. At that rate, it will soon reach its capacity of 105,000 barrels. The addition would enable it to eventually brew 600,000 barrels a year. "We now have 2.5% of the market in Kansas City, and there's no reason we can't have 5 or 8 or 10% of our hometown market," said Jeff Krum, chief financial officer for Boulevard. "Then there's Omaha; Des Moines; Yankton, South Dakota; St. Louis. We have a much smaller fraction in those places, but there's no good reason why - if we do things right - we can't grow our market share there." Construction of a new 70,000-square-food building to house a new brewhouse would begin in March 2005, and the new brewery would begin producing beer by June 2006.

I've been seeing their beers in more places in MN as well, both retail and in bars. Not bad beers either. I've had their Pale Ale, Hefe, Porter and Winter beers, my favorite I think is the Porter. Good to see good breweries expanding.

Glad to hear they are going ahead with this. We have been hearing rumors for some time.

If you really wantto hear something interesting, they are going to hit that 85K barrels on a 35bbl system. They are still brewing on the original brewhouse and it is small compared to other breweries popping that much beer. They have a huge cellar though and are now in operation 24/7 for I believe 6 days a week.

Here is a press shot of what they will look like when done.

Wow, talk about maxing out capacity. Hopefully that doesn't catch up to them and end up not being able to meet the demand.

Beaver,

You can't get Boulevard in Colorado? That's incredible since we get so many Colorado beers here. We might have to work out some sort of trade.

Crazy, huh? We don't get Moose Drool down here, either. They get it up in Cheyenne, but not here. (Doesn't break my heart; don't see the attraction... but I guess I'm not a huge brown ale fan either, Don't know why...)

They have their own Supermarket Liquors:

I 25 north
I 80 east
Hwy 85 south (first exit you come to)
...and it's about a mile down on the right. They have Moose Drool and all of the Big Sky products if you're curious. Still looking for Big Sky stuff in alum. bottles, though....
