This kegerator newbie has one more quick question...
I've heard a couple people talk about installing a fan in their freezer to cool the draft tower to eliminate "1st Pour Foamies." (Sorry, my daughter coined the term...)
Is this easy to do? Where do you get this fan?
I read someone insulated their tower with HVAC insulation and it solved the problem...my kegerator has a very small amount of thin insulation.
Am I being to anal and should I just swallow the fact that come 5:15 pm, my first beer will be a small one, or is this something I should try and fix with one of the above solutions, or any other ideas you all may have?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers!

I tried the fan idea, and had no luck with it. I ended up using a set of copper pipes filled with water and capped on both ends. They seem to carry the cold up from the fridge into the tower pretty well. I was able to keep the top of the tower around 11' C.
I think the problem with the fan was that it could not blow air up into the closed space very well.

Mine came w/ fan and a cooled tower. This is mine www.Beercooler.com
It came w/ a thin piece in insulation in the tower to. I left the thin stuff in but went to the hardware and bought some of the aluminum wrapped bubble wrap. $1.50 for 1 foot by 2 ft. They use it on duct work. I can not even feel if my tower is cold now. It doesnt even sweat on a hot day.......very cold beer right from the first of the pour.

if you try the fan route, you need to be able to circulate cold air through the tower, not just blow it up into it. if you can divide the tower with something most of the way to the top, and force cool air into one side, and subsequently back down the other, air cooling will work just fine...

Perhaps you could "funnel" the air from the fan into the tower by way of a tube. If the tube was forced all the way to the top of the tower, you're good.

Nice idea! I would think one might be able to do the same with 3/8" copper tubing, if they did not know how to sweat pipes. I think I'll try your idea with my kegerator. Nice job.

Piece of cake if you can sweat copper. And if you can't, then this is the project to learn on since a leak does no damage.
And don't bother trying to sweat the top caps, just slide them on.
