Anyone heading out to the Maryland or Delaware shore this weekend? I'll be out there and would not mind possible meeting up at DFH or someplace.

I'll be in OC from 7/2-7/5 but I'm not sure what my schedule is. Do you still have my cell#?

I think I still have it in my PMs. I'll PM mine to you and if you feel like it give me a buzz. I'll have the ole laptop on while we're there as well. Not sure if it is just going to be my wife and I or if there will be visitors. I'm beer shopping tomorrow so I hope to have a decent selection at my place. I'm mainly planning on just chilling.

I've got a whole case of Schafer Light waiting in the garage for me to ice it down for the big day. I don't know what everyone ELSE is gonna drink, though.... ;)

Speaking of celebrating, I'm heading to the bizarre town of Helen Ga. It's a self styled "alpine mountain village". As strange as it might seem, they generally have an excellent selection of beer for any town in Ga. and luckily the laws allow up to 12% ABV as of July 1st. I hope to see something that was previously unavailable.... I'd love to pluck an Orval off a shelf in Ga! It might seem pretty mundane to alot of readers but since I live in SC, it will be quite a step up!

I spent some of my formative years in SC (Aiken) and we would go to Helen, GA every fall for their Oktoberfest. As I recall it was a real hoot. I'd like to hear a report from your trip as I haven't been back there in over 20 years. I've been thinking about taking a road trip.

I've either seen brochures or a website promoting that Oktoberfest event. I looks fun.

My girlfriend and myself were there last year for Oktoberfest. It is alot of fun. The area itself is beautiful. It's a great excuse to hang out and drink. The town certainly prospers as a result of it. My parents have a cabin in neighboring White county which is dry. White county is therefore the epitome of a dead, backwoods southern town while Helen has become a boomtown. It amazes me that people can be so set in there ways that they don't even consider the ramifications of close-mindedness. (I.E. White county's poor economy.)

Gi' us a report when you get back. I'd like to know what brews are floating around.
BTW where do you drink in Columbia? Goatfeathers? I end up in COL when I fly in to visit my mom down in Aiken.

Columbia now has a "Flying Saucer" which has a great selection. There is also a local place in 5 points called "Jakes' which has a pretty good selection too. "Liberty Tap Room" is also supposedly quite good although I haven't made it there yet. "La Pizza Cucina" on Two Notch Rd also has about 100 bottled beers and an amazing wine selection.

Midland Valley? Son, we had your number. Give it up for the Aiken High Fightin' Green Hornets! You didn't play soccer by any chance did you?
AHS 1982-1985
I can still remember our damned alma mata:
In the land of flowers and sunshine
stands our Aiken High,
There's a tower of truth and learninng
pointed towards the sky;
Hail to Aiken, alma mata
tender, fair and true,
Grateful we with hearts unbending
all our vows renew!
It should be noted that there is in fact no tower at AHS unless you count the water tower out back.
To keep this on topic I did some first class beer drinking in dear old Aiken, then again maybe I shouldn't be discussing that here................ ;)
