View Full Version : Good books for a begginer?
I am very interested in brewing my own beer. I have never done it before and know only that there is alot of info on the subject. I am very interested in the methods and the entire craft of brewing. I dont have any equipment or literature on homebrewing either. For now, I would like to know what kind of books I would need to get started studying on. I don't believe i would be one to get a "beer kit" to start. I realy would like to take it more seriously than that. Any info on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! EBW
I just realized this board doesnt include homebrew. Sorry for that, I'll post elsewhere. Thanks, EBW

My favorite book is The Brewmaster's Bible (Stephen Snyder) There's lots of info and a ton of recipes. I've worn my copy ragged.

I would recommend Daniel's "designing great beers". It's not a step by step manual for brewing, but it gives excellent theory on brewing. My own brewing has grown leaps and bounds since using this book. I would suggest you use this one in addition to another such as Palmer's "how to brew" (available online).
Thanks for the info! It will be a big help!
sincerely, EBW

The normal beginner books are(in no particular order):
1) "The Complete Joy of Homebrewing" by Charles Papazian
2) "How To Brew" by John Palmer
3) "The Homebrewing Guide" by Dave Miller
Most start with either #1 or #2

also note that "how to brew" is available online for free:
http://www.howtobrew.com/intro.html
that makes it a pretty good way to learn about the basics.

Don't sweat it man!! I can't think of a more fitting place to post this thread, than on a "How to" section!
I used "The New Complete Joy of Homebrewing", but you know...I only read it one time. The rest I figured out by doing and asking questions here.
Just DO IT. That's all there is to it. You won't regret it, you'll only regret the time you spent NOT brewing your own.
Any questions, just ask here. 24/7 there's someone here that will answer you.
