For those traveling to our lovely island! There are some good micro-brewed beers you should not miss out on.

Long Island's only micro-brewery is Blue Point located in Patchogue. There are brew-houses, but this is the only brewery.

Blue Point's beers tend to fall on the hoppy side with a few notable exceptions. Their Oatmeal Stout and their Barleywine, Old Howling Bastard.

Their mainstay brews are:
Toasted Lager (flagship brew)
Pale
Oatmeal Stout

Other brews come in throughout the year like Pilsner, Summer Ale, Double Blonde, ESB(hoppy kick ass brew), Winter Ale

If you're on Long Island, definitely check them out. You can visit their tasting room Thurs-Sat and I think you can buy their beer throughout Long Island and in some of the boroughs of NYC.

As for Brew Houses you have Southampton Publick House which consistently brews quality. A cool thing they do is cellar certain beers that one would want to age in a bottle. Go check them out.

John Harvard's in Lake Grove which has a new Brewmaster this past year. Their beers are getting better.

Black Forest in Farmingdale. Their beers are brewed in German Style under the Reinheitsgebot.

(All of the above are in Suffolk County.) ( Farmingdale is on the border of nassau and suffolk )

Their are some bars which have a large selection. In Nassau You have Croxley Ales (2 locations) and Waterzooi (belgian cafe)

In Suffolk, no bar stands out except for a little bar in Bayshore called Coopersmiths which usually has something like 16 taps.

You'll find bars that have 6 taps or more, but to me that's nothing. I'm not happy unless their are 20 beers to choose from. Not including the A-B, coors and miller junk.

Hope this helps anyone looking to go to LI and have a place to wet their whistle.

Even though it's not LI, Brooklyn Brewery does a great job. Stop by their brewery or you can find their beers in mostly every place that sells beer to go.
