Can anyone tell me whether or not a keg is still good to drink? The keg is only one week old. However, I had to leave the keg outside and it is no longer cold. Also, I still have the tapper hooked up to it. I'm afraid I may have ruined it by doing this. Can anyone help, the keg is more than half full.

Thank you,
Jo

Sorry to say, but it's pretty much shot. When it's not hooked up to a system supplying gas, like CO2, a keg has less than 48 hours before it oxidizes, goes flat and becomes worthless.

And the temperature thing didn't help, either.

bummer...

Thank you for your expertise on the subject. I thought it was a no-win situation. The shittiest part of it all is that I have a kegerator but haven't used it in a long time. It needs a new line and whatever else that type of system requires. Do you know where to purchase a new line and equipment for a kegerator? Are there special beer supply stores?

There's a lot of folks on here with kegerators that'll be able to point you in the right direction. There's also an article on the Realbeer homepage called "This Old Kegerator" with some info, I think...

Thank you kindly. It's a pleasure to join all of you. Have patience with me. My father was the keg man at our house until he split. Now I have taken over and I am quite clueless.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Welcome to the board.

Do a search for kegerator - you'll get plenty of info :)

and of course your good ol' local home brew shop - if you have one in the area.... they should have all the kegerator stuff in stock.

Welcome to the board!

Everyone has covered this quite well, but I wanted to add -- the surest, if not the only, way to tell if a keg is still good to drink is to taste it!!

You can still use that beer for gags and tricks! Give it to one of you good buddies! a good spot to find kegerator parts is here (http://www.kegworks.com/shoppingcart/customer/home.php?cat=263). Get your system up and working so you don't waste any more beer!

one thing you may want to consider, talk to your local liquor store owner, they probably would have a co2 setup you could rent. chill the keg, purge the air, and try a beer. if it tastes like wet cardboard, then it's oxidized and all you can do is dump it out. if not, then keep it chilled and drink it fast, cause the wet cardboard is probably just around the corner...

Umm, not to state the obvous, but...most of your friends that are used to drinking...uh.....cough!.....normal beer....probably wouldn't notice the difference if you get it cold enough....!!

Just throw a party and get rid of it.....

:D

I am assuming by real beer you are talking about bottles...or the free beer they get when they come over to your place:))
