View Full Version : Removing painted labels from Corona bottles?
I am looking at using clear bottles for the hard raspberry lemonade that I have been making. I want to use Corona bottles and was wondering if anyone had any experience removing the painted on labels or even what type of paint they use? What are some other brands that use a clear longneck pop-off bottle? Corona is the most convenient for me since I drink it on a regular basis.

Grain Belt Premium has clear bottles with a paper label. (Much easier to remove.) You might have to buy a case of returnables tho, the ones in six and twelve packs might be twisties. Plus that would give you a nice sturdy case to transport them in and keep them out of the light. It's not a bad beer, either. It's light, slightly malty. Not great, mind you, but better than any of the macros out there, IMO. I would assume it's available in WI. If you can't find that, I think Miller returnables are still in clear bottles.

I have used Mexicali bottles for some of my beers. They have screen printed labels, but you can scrape them off with a razor blade. Thats what I put my Chili Beer in.

You might want to try acetone too. I'm not sure that it will work, but there's not much that it won't destroy :)

Probably easier (and not too expensive) to grab a case of a macro that uses clear bottles with paper labels and just dump 'em. You could drink them depending on what you buy. I know some Caribbean brews use clear bottles, but I'm not sure if they are twisties or not - Sol, Carib, etc.
Cheers!

I would just buy some clear bottles, much much easier.

Miller High Life uses clear bottles right? that is about as cheap as you can get. Trying to get those screened on labels is a pain in the but. I wanted to do that with some of the 22oz rogues bombers in the dishwasher. Good luck if you follow that route, maybe a wire brush?

I wouldn't even try to scrape off the screened labels. Acetone won't even touch it.
I would personally avoid anything that was a twist off bottle and only use pop tops.
I use lots of Corona Bottles....since I pour into a glass anyway, it never becomes an issue. Just keep them out of the light.

Soaking bottles in a normal Star-San solution for 24-48 hours will cause the "paint" to scrub right off. It's best if you do it in a trashcan and let the summer sun heat the water up. The paint will literally fall of if you just tap the bottle on the ground, but it does take a VERY light scrubbing to completely remove it.

Don't waste your time with clear macrobrew bottles, they're all twist-offs, right?
Strongbow cider is in a clear bottle, easy to find, and a good summertime drinker. Buy a case or two and serve at a gathering, it's sweet so most everyone likes it.

Just go to a liquor store that accepts returnable bottles and ask to buy a case of clear bottles. That's how I got all of my bottles.... .10 per bottle

I cleaned another batch of Corona bottles yesterday. The trick with the Star-San is to let them soak 24-48 hours and pull them out and let them dry. It is the drying of the Star-San that seems to cause the "paint" to just come right off.

Thanks OK - this might work for some other bottles that have painted labels (Rogue, etc)
