I get to spend 4 days in downtown Winnipeg the end of this month, any hints for decent beer?

The "local" microbrewery in Winnipeg is the Fort Garry Brewing Company, you can check them out at www.fortgarry.com Some of the beers are pretty good, but also pretty mainstream. It is the only micro in Manitoba...there used to be 2 but Two Rivers merged with Fort Garry a year ago.
You can find a lot of other Canadian micros there, but watch out for the fake (mega) micros!
The food is excellent in Winnipeg (which makes up for the damn cold in the winter.)
Watch out for the mosquitos the size of hawks!!!

thanks for the info... I enjoy most of the Unibroue products, are they available on tap up there?

Hmmm, I was in Winnipeg in January for work...I don't remember seeing anything from them there, at least on tap.
Their website lists the Manatoba Liquor Control Board as the distributer in that provence...so I doubt you'll get it on tap anywhere, probably just in bottles (but I could be wrong). There are very few places even here in Ontario that carry it on tap, and we are right next door. The only one I have seen on tap up here is Blanche de Chambly.
