I believe Rogue Morimoto Imperial Pilsner comes in a a porcelain bottle - pricey at $14 last time I saw it.

Cheers!

There is a Belgian beer or two that come in pottery type bottles. The name eludes me at the moment but I'll check this evening and let you know.

There's quite a few Belgian beers that use that type of bottle. I've had a few from Sterkens:Brewery website (http://www.sterkensbrew.be/indexbs.html)
I got the poorter and the Sebastian at a store in DC. The bottles are really nice and I've kept them on display.

I've seen some bottles that look like porcelin or pottery, but in reality they are glass painted to look like porcelin/pottery. Something to keep in mind.

Delirium Tremens is one of the ones painted to look like porcelain but really glass. Still a nice bottle though.

Rogue Morimoto Imperial pilsner is an awesome beer, and it comes in a beautiful pottery bottle. This bottle would look beautiful with a single carnation in it.
Finding this beer may be a challenge, and it costs a lot when you do find it, but it's worth every penny, every hour, and every mile driven.

I think this one is coated to look like porcelein, too. Not paint/silkscreen, per se, but some kind of coating...

You are correct threecb. It's not very tasty either in my opinion. Vile in fact!

I've never had it, but it has no ringing endorsements here!

Well, I'm feeling really quite pleased with myself, having had a great beer-day. I went for a quick drive (with no intention of finding beer) and came back with a Budvar Bud (the stronger one from the Czech brewery), a La Trappe Dubbel and a Young's Oatmeal Stout! The reason I'm posting this here is that I've just found that the 500ml bottle of La Trappe is authentically ceramic (the first I've seen which isn't just sprayed with a coating).

I also today discovered that my uncle was a lawyer for the Czech Budweiser brewery when they fought their case against A-B in England (and won the right to use 'Budweiser' and 'Bud' themselves). I feel honoured!

Fiedler's Pils Im Stein and their Bock Im Stein come in a crock style pottery bottle that has a swing top cap.

I'm thinking it's probably unlikely that you'll find a crown cap on ceramic bottles. Judging from the above post and from the look of mine (which uses a cork), a rim thin enough to hold a crown cap would probably be too fragile to cap, using ceramic.

The morimoto has a crown cap, and it's definately ceramic.

really? Well, I stand corrected! But I wouldn't do it myself, given the choice.

The beers I mentioned are crowned as well and have the swing top to re-cap the bottle.

Are they German, or American micro? I quite like the look of ceramic bottles, and I might be able to get hold of them if they're German. The names ring a bell, too; maybe I've seen them in Michael Jackson's 500 beers book.

They are German. Here is a link to one I found on ebay of all places.

It was a damned good beer as well. I used to be able to get them in this area. If you cannot find one I could run to the place where I used to get them and see if he has any.

That's very kind of you, but I live in England. I think I'll just wait until I go for my first European beer tour (in the next couple of years, hopefully) and have a hunt around then.

I am not surprised that a ceramic or potery bottle can hold a crown cap, bullet proof vests are made out of a type of ceramic!

It just depends on how small the particles are. Larger particles make a rougher but brittle compound, smaller particles make smoother and stronger materials.

Now I have just today heard of a new bottle, "The Alumibottle"
from Montana I believe.

Has anyone had a beer in "the Alumibottle"?

Moose Drool is indeed available in the alumibottle. Haven't had it from that container tho. Usually when I have it, it's on tap at my local.

I happen to have 3 from Germany and 1 from Belgium. The 3 are from a series by Alten Munster beer featuring Schlos Newschwanstein. The one from Belgium is called La Gullotine from the Brasserie Huyghe Brewery and it does show a gullotine on the wrapper..

Could this be the description of the Dutch lager, Brand?
I am talking about the bottles from the early 80's.

Hey Stronk - when you get this - on the cover of Michael Jackson's 500 beers book, there's one that actually appears GREEN. Any idea what one that might be? Or is it a trick of the printing press?
