I was at Aberdeen Brewery last week and word has it that they no longer have a brewer and that they don't intend on hiring another one. They are going to clear out the brewing equipment and just have additional seating. They are going to replace the micro's with Miller, Bud, ect., ect. That's too bad; their beers were'nt the best however I enjoyed a few of their offerings. Now Northwest Indiana is down to Three Floyd's, Mishawaka, and Backroad.

Don't get frustrated, man. Just remember, there is a plethora of breweries within driving distance. You're even closer to chicago than I am, there's plenty there. Bell's and Arcadia are only an hour or two, Mad Anthony's in Forte Wayne, and you didn't mention the Dunland in Michigan City. Are they closed? They aren't great either, but the food is alright. Lafayette also has one.

There was a big shakeout of breweries and brewpubs in the mid-late 90s. Some of it was due to inferior products some was due to competitian for shelf space. While I hate to see breweries fail and macros prevail I am almost as sad to drink just OK beer from a brewpub that could do better. Especially after I have traveled or made an extra effort to get there.

Aberdeen's brewer, Sam, is involved in a brewpub project being worked on for the Southwest side of Chicago.

The following URL is what they have posted for now -- http://www.beverlybrewingco.com/pages/1/index.htm.
There is also a blurb about them on beerme.com.
Hope they open soon - the south side of chicago needs good hand-crafted beer.

Sam Strupeck from Aberdeen is at the newest Indiana micro in the state, the Shoreline Brewery in Michigan City. He was in Indy on Saturday for the Indiana Microbrewers Festival. You can get contact info for him at www.brewersofindianaguild.com (http://www.brewersofindianaguild.com)
He said he hasn't been able to check emails lately--too busy getting opened, but his phone number is on their brewery listing. It was great seeing him! Looking forward to being able to check out his place in person.

I'm not far from Michigan City (about 15 miles) I might have to just drop in on him. :)
