I'll be heading to Chincoteague Island, Virginia in September for a wedding. I haven't done any research yet, but can anyone tell me if there are any good bars or brewpubs there or nearby? Thanks!

Chincoteague is pretty desolate as far as beers goes. You may find a few Sam Adams or possibly a Sierra Nevada. You may get lucky and run across some of Dogfish Head's beers. Not much in Old Chincoteague. I used to go there frequently to fish for flounder and to enjoy the beach over on Assateague. I recommend that you take a drive up the coast about an hour to Rehobeth, Del. and visit DogFish Head's brewpub and Ram's Head Tavern. I have a place in Ocean City, MD which is in between and there are several beer stores there that carry a decent selection. This past weekend I purchased some Clipper City and Clay Pipe brewery beers as well as the Dogfish Shelter Pale Ale. Chincoteague is Fun and Assateague is beautyful and you'll see the ponys and you'll miss the fantastic, famous, Chincoteague oysters. Nasa has a small visitors center on nearby Wallops Island. But id you want great beer try to get over to Baltimore or DC. Baltimore has a large concentration of Brewpubs and good beer bars. DC has RFD and the Brickskeller and several local micros in the burbs. If you are there over a weekend, Give me a shout. I'll probably be out at my beach place in O.C.

Thanks for the tips...I absolutely love oysters, especially fresh. We'd like to take some extra days off on either side of the wedding and make a vacation out of it, so hopefully we can get to some good beer spots. We'll be travelling with a 14 month old at that time, so it should make it interesting. When the time comes and if it works out to hook up for a beer, I'll let you know. Thanks again!
