"Munich's First Maibock," the label proudly proclaims. 16.9 oz brown bottle, 7.2 ABV according to the HB web site.
Pours a clear copper color with a thick, cream colored head that settles to a pillowy cap, leaving scant lacing.
Sweet, caramel, nutty, toasted malt, melanoidin nose. Alcohol becomes apparent along with mild DMS as the beer warmed.
Caramel malt initial flavors, characteristic German melanoidin flavor with (surprisingly) mild hops present in aftertaste. Alcohol tang back.
Medium to thick, chewy body. Syrupy mouth-feel.
Nice, smooth, easy drinking beer with more character than many would expect in a lager. Very similar to an Oktoberfest-Märzen in style, yet thicker and more potent. Unlike many of the Maibocks seen from U.S. micros, much darker in color and richer in flavor.
