my local homebrew supplier said that "since one-step uses oxygen as a sanitizer, you could probally use things like oxyclean to do the same thing, just rinse it after you use it". Does anybody have any comments on this. The idea intrigues me because oxyclean would be alot cheaper that one-step.

Oxyclean is NOT a sanitizer and should not be used as such in brewing.

Awhile back we had a discussion on Oxiclean. (I think brewmonkey gave the link above) I noticed that in John Palmer's book, he mentioned the oxygen cleaning action and similar ingredients but I noticed residue on my equipment and it came out in a batch I had bottled. It would'nt rinse off! You can call the Oxiclean Company & they will tell you that Oxiclean is for carpets, upholstery and laundry, not to be ingested or used on food service items. They told me it would'nt kill me but it would prolly leave an aftertaste... it did. (Leave an after taste that is!) But I'm still kickin.
