Privatbrauerei Hoepfner, Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
11.2 oz bottle, 5.5 ABV. Label proclaims, "...himmlisch mild!" Roughly translated, this says, "Heavenly smooth!" Can't find a direct translation for the beer's title, I'll check with some friends close to the source.
Pours a clear, yellow gold with a thin white head that settles to a meager film.
Pilsner/Munich malt nose with lots of melanoidin, tangy hops back. Mild DMS present.
Big, yet mellow (smooth) Pilsner malt flavor with tangy hop finish - Saaz, maybe Tettnang. The flavors almost melt in your mouth, leaving a pleasant, tangy hop aftertaste. Great balance between malt and hop.
Thin to medium body with slightly syrupy mouth feel.
This beer would be categorized as an Export (I won't call it a Dortmunder, as Karlsruhe isn't in the north of Germany) - crisp and refreshing, smooth and malty - but not as hoppy as a Pils. This is the beer Becks wants to be - a good side-by-side would be interesting.
A very fresh selection from the World Beer Tour. A great German quaffer that reminds me of relaxing in Biergartens in good weather - I cracked 2 bottles for this sampling.
