Clipper City Brewing Co., Baltimore, MD. 12 oz brown bottle, drink-by dated 8/04.
I've been holding this review for a while - seems quiet enough around here to throw it out. Sample from the Chaz shipment (I'm collecting some good stuff for you Chaz, it ought to be ready by the time London is a pleasant memory).
Clear yellow gold color with lively carbonation. Thick white head that settled to a decent cap of fine bubbles.
Hop nose with subtle DMS, corn, and toasted malt back.
Initial flavors of corn with toasted malt back and tangy, almost sour, hop finish. I hope there's no rice in this Chaz...but it didn't have that crisp, bodiless, flavorless feel from too much rice. Rather sour, old fashioned U.S. "beery" taste with warming.
Thin body, effervescent mouth feel.
Plain ol' beer. Reminds me of our own, popular Old Style here in the Chicago area - maybe a couple notches above, but I wouldn't opt for another at the bar if there was other beer available.
