Since most of us know about what a double IPA should taste like, I won't go into too many details.
This beer is a classic example of a double IPA, perhaps more representative of the style than any other double IPA I've had. It has the mouthfeel and hoppiness of Rogue's I2PA. The hops are more reminiscent of dreadnaught, being very citrusy, but it is not as overhopped as dreadnaught. It definately uses mostly the same hops as dreadnaught, most likely including a lot of amarillo. (My favorite hop.) The maltiness is slightly cleaner than that of dreadnaught or I2PA. This beer would take very well to aging.
It claims 90 IBU's, which I believe to be an understatement, 1.086 OG, and 9%abv.
It's definately worth trying... at least if you are a hophead.

I finally opened a bottle, drinking as I type this...interesting that you mention the citrusy hops: I get that as well, but also a lot of pineyness (actually closer to juniper) - sort of a mixture of grapefruit and gin...WOW...just burped; confirms the grapefruit-gin!!
The maltiness is also there, but not to the point of being overly sweet, just nicely balanced.
All in all, a very good IIPA, and my local paint store is expecting a shipment in a couple days; I had to travel a couple hours to get these two bottles.

The Eleven pours a clear, well carbonated, golden-orange color. It has a big, fluffy off-white head with great retention and lacing.

It has an almost sweetish, piney hop smell, with bready malts and tangerine underneath. The pine scent was very appealing and dominated at first but quickly went to a cloying tangerine smell. The initial aroma rocked but as it warmed, I liked it less and less.

The taste is strong sweet cookie malts and tangerines initially, with a citrus hop finish and a bitter aftertaste. It has a full, creamy palate that coats the mouth after taking a quaff. The 9% alcohol is hidden quite well. Like the aroma, this was pretty well balanced initially, but as it warmed the sweetness and tangerines came out way too strong. Other than the bitter aftertaste, this was skewed much more heavily towards sweet over bitter than I was expecting.

This was a true tale of two beers. My first couple sips of this were wonderful (but not quite in Hecules territory), but I liked it less and less as I drank more of the 22 oz bottle. The cloying sweetness and tangerine in the aroma and flavor became too much for me.

Definately a beer for those who drink barleywines and double IPA's. (or double or imperial anything for that matter.)
And, as noted, it IS better colder.

I do like Doulbe IPAs and Barley wines. Just wasn't too sold by this. I do like Avery's IPA. I had just tried Great Divide's Hercules DIPA a couple days before and loved it, so I think my hopes were pretty high for the Eleven.

I drank some Eleven this weekend and i thought it was a great beer. HOPPED to the gills in a way that staggered the tounge in about 1 second of timeless nirvana. ;)
