My girlfriend would like me to make a "hop head" beer. Since I'm not into this style, Maybe someone could help clarify a little for me. Is this just a highly hopped american style pale ale? does anyone have any recipes they could pass along?
Also, is there anything wrong with making a mini-batch, say less than a gallon or so to experiment with new recipes?
Thanks for the help.

This post confuses me :(
Is what a highly hopped american style pale? Or do you mean from the title - "Hop Head" being the beer in question?

Here is my favorite lagunitas clone....It is high hop flavor, bitter, but not really too bitter.
8 lbs pale extract
1 lb munich malt
1 lb carapils
1/2 lb caramel malt
1 oz centenial 1 hour
1 oz columbus 30 minutes
1 oz cascade 10 minutes
1 oz cascade 3 minutes
1 oz cascade dry hopped
wyeats 1056 yeast
I steeped the grains 45 minutes
1 week primary
2 weeks second
og was 1.068
fg was 1.014
ibu was 69
In my opinion it is a exact lagunitas ipa clone.
If you want all grain let me know!!!

Yeah, I'd be interested in the all-grain version.

I saw that recipe. With 10 oz hops you'd almost have to up the recipe to account for absorbtion.

toneyc,
I have only done 2 all grain so far..and both are still in secondary...Real close to coming out though!!...
for one I did this which is kinda close....I used more grain being afraid of not getting the efficiency though...I used:
For 5 gallons
13# English pale malt(maris otter)
1/2 # carapils
1/2 lb whaet
1/2 lb caramel
1 oz centenial 1 hour
1 oz columbus 30 minutes
1 oz cascade 10 minutes
1 oz cascade 3 minutes
1 oz cascade dry hopped
wyeast 1056 yeast
Mashed in my cube cooler 1 hour at 152 degrees
sparged for 45 minutes with 168 degree
og was 1.073
when I put to secondary gravity was 1.015
I'll let ya know how it turns out..
Ever use that british pale malt???

Hop head brew could be any number of things - IPA, pale ale, a hoppy American amber, or how about a double IPA...
12 lbs light malt extract
1 lb wheat malt extract
3/4lb crystal 40L
1/2lb honey malt
1/4lb viena
1oz Columbus hops @ 90 min
1oz Warrior hops @ 75 min
1oz Chinook hops @ 60 min
1oz Centennial hops @ 35 min
1oz Centennial hops @ 15 min
1oz Cascade hops @ 5 min
dry hopped w/ 2oz Amarillo hops in secondary
dry hopped w/ 2oz Cascade hops in tertiary
White Labs California V ale yeast
White Labs California ale yeast
This is what I consider a "Hop Head" brew
