Not usually. Maybe once at some point.

Only once, out of necessity. On a bus trip up to Pac Bell park for a Giants game, I brought a couple growlers, but no one brought cups. I did what I had to do! :D

during the orange blossom festival the riverside brewing co. (thier beer is not what it used to be) brewed up an orange blossom blond ale. a couple of times (when i was single) i would buy a growler and drink directly from it, then refill it and so on and so on. buy the end of the night (early morning) you could find me at home passed out on the kitchen floor with an empty growler next to me...:D

No, but I regretfully admit to drinking from countless pitchers back in college...

I am happy to say I did and it was of Jeremiah Red from BJ's. That was a really good night!
Way to go people. I've never done it myself. Not to say I wouldn't. It would have to be somewhat empty though. As noted elsewhere, I am a cheap drunk and drinking a whole grolwer would be too much for me. I usually stick to the 32 OZ. or 40 OZ. bottles.
At this point in time I haven't. But just for future reference, do I need to learn how to hold it like a moonshine jug?

Once. I went to Capital City at the Baltimore inner harbor and got a growler on the way out. Didn't feel like lugging it around since there are kinda heavy. At the same time, I didn't feel like walking back to the car either. Decided the best think to do is get rid of some weight. After a few pints in the brew pub and a paper bagged growler, the day seemed to get alot more fun. Who woulda thought!!!

Now you'll have to visit the Cap City DC and VA locations. :D

absolutely! finger goes in the loop, jug rests on your elbow. Dont forget to "play" it by blowing into it between "slams"

Somewhere between once and often. I guess that would make occasionally ;)
It's a great way to make whomever is getting the glasses out of the cabinet move a little faster!
Nice technique, Tweek!

Thats a good point. I have large hands so i just hold the growler around the bottom and pretend my mouth is a pint!

Good point, I currently regretfully drink swill from pitchers while in college. I might as well bring the memory of taking down a growler straight from the bottle too. :)

I get growlers from two local breweries anytime I can convince the wife to stop on her way home from work... Suprisingly often it would turn out. We often times forget to run the dishwasher until we totally run out of glasses.
So not only do I often drink out of growlers, I often drink out of gallon milk jugs, half gallon juice containers and the Britta filter pitcher directly. :D

Ok that's cool about the growlers, the milk jugs and the half gallon containers. But drinking from the brita water filter defeats the purpose cause you contaminate all the water in the pitcher.

Well I voted "No" a while ago. But now I have to change my vote, cause I just got my first Growler for my birthday. Just for this post and self satisfaction, I've been drinkin' right from the jug! Way cool...
i've never done it. not sure if i ever will, but thus far i've abstained. usually i get a growler WITH a glass from the brewery...of course, by usually i mean the one time

Nope. Never. But lest ye think me a prude, I wouldn't rule it out in the future. It's just that, a) we've usually bought it to take home, and since "home" is at least an hour and a half from the closest brewpub, it ain't gonna get cracked open in the car, and b) although I will admit to occasional intemperence, when I'm drinking beer good enough to bring home in a growler, I'm sipping leisurely and enjoying how it looks in the glass.
Current growlers:
North by Northwest, Austin, TX
Big Buck Brewery, Grapevine, TX
Sierra Blanca Brewing, Carrizozo, NM
Steamworks Brewing, Durango, CO
Route 66 Brewpub, St. Louis, MO
Market Street Brewpub, Nashville, TN
Sierra Madre Brewing, Saratoga, WY
Obviously, given my location, only Big Buck and North by Northwest get filled with anything approaching regularity. Recently enjoyed Big Buck's IPA, and North by Northwest's Okanogan Black Ale.

I was just at Big Buck Brewery & Steakhouse in Gaylord, Michigan yesterday. I wonder if there is any connection between the two or just same name brewery from different states?

If it's associated with Bass Pro Shops, they're one and the same.
Please forgive me but I'm fairly new to the micro beer world. I voted no but should of maybe voted 'What is a growler' Last Friday I was at Big Buck Brewery looking to buy some six packs of their beer. To my surprise they did not sell beer in bottle form. They sold beer in these 1 gallon glass jugs which I think she called a growler. I'm I correct? They also sold beer in these mini kegs which I forget what they called them. She told me you need to drink the beer from the growlers fairly quickly because its not pressurized. How long is quick? Would it stay good for a weekend (Friday night, Saturday, Sunday)? My final question is what should the price range be for a growler? These were $8.95 Mon-Thur; $11.95 Fri-Sun.

The price is about right. Some places more, some less. And of course, if you keep the growler, bring it back to 'em next time, and it's only the price of the beer. You'll be lucky if your beer lasts three days in a growler. I've seen it reasonably carbonated by the second day, but if there's any left the third day it's usually pretty flat. Yuck.
Oh, and if you get the growler at Big Buck, and if they've got the seasonal Oktoberfest, get it! I had it in Grapevine. Yum!
