I brewed my IPA last week. I'm going into the secondary today. What can I expect when I do? Will I get a little boost in fermentation again ( I would suspect from agitating the yeast)? Will it just sit and settle? I've never gone into a secondary before, so I'm just curious. Thanks.
Cheers,
Bill

the activity in a secondary is pretty uneventfull. It will just finish out its ferment and settle. You will not (or at least should not if everything was clean) get a kick off like you had in your primary.

Not much visibly happens, though you can see changes in the clarity of beer by looking through the carboy while back lighting the beer with a flashlite.

You will also get another inch or so of gunk. The beer will continue to fizz and burp. You will continue to salivate and drool when you look at it.

Now, consider this. Dry hop your beer. 3-4 days prior to bottling, add some leaf hops in a grain bag, weighted with some ball bearings. Sterilize the equipment. I think the hops are safe out of the bag... This will impart a delicious and subtle flowering to the foam of your beer... I did this for the first time on my last Pale Ale, and BOY oh BOY... you will wet yourself.
