The World's Original Extra Special Bitter, the label proudly proclaims from this 18.6 oz bottle. 5.9 ABV, drink by date of 22/NOV/04.

Poured a clear, deep, amber to orange color with a white to tan head that thinned quickly to a bubbly film and collar.

Biscuit malt nose with toffee/caramel back mixed with butterscotch notes from diacetyl.

Crisp, biscuit maltiness with a nice hop balance in the flavor. Caramel/toffee back flavors with just the right citrus bitterness in balance. Some near tannic notes in the finish.

Thinnish body with a syrupy mouth feel.

Very pleasing and flavorful - even refreshing for what one may perceive as a heavier beer. You can see the influence the style had on Dreher and Sedelmayer as they developed their amber beer recipes.

I used to drink this beer quite often in my ale-kick days, I need to revisit it more often.

Most of the time I at least one Fuller's ESB available at my house. One of my fav's. As it warms it only improves, IMO.

I enjoy Fuller's beers too especially on cask. I sometimes overlook them when shopping at the paint store in favor of other items that I have not tried or seasonal offerings. I need to stop doing that and revisit some of my old favorites. I do usually have a bottle of the 1845 in my fridge though.

I like the London Pride Better, but I love all of Fuller's products except for their IPA which I find to be not as good.

Drink these warmer than you would most beers. Oxidization isn't bad for it either. I have a homebrewed bitter similar to London Pride and my wife will pour herself a pint and not touch it for hours and then start in on it. I agree with her and think it tastes best warm, and flat. At least compared to most beers.
