BeerAdvocate.com Art of Beer Fest Announces Its Beer Forum Speaker Line-Up

BeerAdvocate.com is proud to announce its Beer Forum speaker line-up for the BeerAdvocate.com Art of Beer Fest on May 8, 2004 in Boston, MA. Each speaker will have 45mins to talk to beer enthusiasts on a wide-variety of beer related topics. "Our fests provide attendees with a unique opportunity to connect with the beer industry's brewers, entrepreneurs and gurus," said Todd Alström, President & Co-Founder of BeerAdvocate.com. "And our Beer Forum takes this unique atmosphere of beer education and awareness to a level not found at other fests."

Sam Calagione, President of Dogfish Head Craft Brewers, stated, "The line-up of speakers is pretty much unparalleled compared to other American beer festivals. These talks add a professional and educational element to the festival, which is so important for furthering the gospel of good beer to both the hardcore believers and the uninitiated."

Will Meyers, Cambridge Brewing Company's Brewmaster, stated,
"BeerAdvocate.com Art of Beer Festival goes way beyond ordinary beer festivals that feature large breweries and redundant beers. They instead focus on smaller craft breweries and the more interesting, even esoteric, examples of their art. Their ongoing program of guest speakers spotlights the creative minds behind some of the most intriguing breweries, as well as
underscores for the festivalgoer the organic, personal nature of these small artisanal products. Plus, it's a remarkably fun time."

"It's exciting to have a top-notch beer festival like Art of Beer Fest take root in Boston," said Jim Koch, Founder and Brewer, Samuel Adams. "This is a great event for drinkers to enjoy beer and maybe learn something they didn't know along the way. "

BeerAdvocate.com Art of Beer Fest is Boston's premiere gathering of craft beer and will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2004 at The Cyclorama at The Boston Centers for the Arts in Boston's historical South End. Tickets are now on-sale for Session One (1pm-5pm) or Session Two (6pm-10pm), $25 adv or $30 door, and an exclusive Connoisseur Session (12pm-1pm + Session One), $35 adv only, limited to 250 tickets. So how did it go?

mark

I hate ZERO posts. Used to be ADMIN on a forum and one job I did was make sure that no-one was ignored.

No one here is ignored. My job and the job of my fellow moderators is to keep the forum orderly and organized. If someone recieves zero replies it is not our job to direct traffic to the post.

I agree. This board is fairly high traffic and if a post doesn't receive any responses it means that no one has anything meaningful to contribute in that regard. I appreciate the sentiment of "no one is ignored" but it borders on posting for the sake of posting.

As a fellow moderator, I may as well chime in to agree with both Brewmonk and Eddy. We're a pretty easy-going group here, no one is spited - and we often have heated discussions (though over our passion of beer, and nothing malicious), but rarely do we post for posting's sake.

If it's quiet, enough has been said - or we haven't found a suitable Monty Python cross-reference to tickle our funny bones and run up the thread! ;)

The fest kicked ass! Lots of local brews (170+), a new brewery trying to get the word out, imports from Shelton Bros. like De Ranke and Fantome(s), great speakers from the biz, BBQ, etc. The only thing that would have made this better is if it were held outside as it was a beautiful day in Boston. Outside fests have their own problems though. Can't wait until their Belgian Beer Fest in November!

Cheers!

One of the good things about this board is that it's a manageable and, without too much effort, one can keep an eye on all threads.

The Beer Advocate board is massively popular and this does mean that it's just not possible to do it justice in the same way. It would be a full time job to read and respond to every thread - let alone every posting.

It's maybe a case of less is better in this instance.

Our forum is overly busy though we have scores of watch dogs that show us threads that should be deleted. Thank the beer gods for them or it would be utter chaos there.

Jason - when Richard says, "one can keep an eye on all threads," I don't think he means in a "watch dog" manner. Only that it's easy for members to check in and see what's going on.

In the BA forums, I tend to just check the midwest group threads. As you said, it's busy over there and easy to get caught up and forget the time!

Indeed this is what I meant.

The BA board is so massive that it would be a full-time job to follow everything that's posted there - let alone reply to it all.

For the moment I've stopped posting there in any case.

I occasionally peruse the BA board but tend to stay here most of the time. I did enjoy the forum at Oxford Bottled Beer Database before it went down. Wonder if it will ever be restored.
