I'll be heading up to NYC this weekend to watch some football (read soccer) with some friends from England. I'm pretty well informed about the Big Apple, having been and drunk (and been drunk) there many times. I was wondering if there were any really happening beer bars/places I wasn't aware of.
I already have dba, Zum Schneider, Brooklyn Brewery, Ginger Man, Greenwich Brewing Co., Blind Tiger (this'll be my first time there), and a few nameless corner locals on the list. Any must sees, beer wise? Manhattan & Brooklyn only.

Blind tiger is a must.
In Brooklyn: Mugs Ale House is probably the best selection anywhere in the area, 125 Bedford avenue - 2 blocks from Bedford Ave L stop.
New place for Belgians that I have yet to try is also in the same area of Brooklyn:
Spuyten Duyvil - 359 Metropolitan Avenue.
This place is getting great reviews.
Both places are close to the Brooklyn Brewery for a good bar hop.
Further afield is the brazen head (Atlantic Avenue) who often have good casks.
But you'll be in Nevada Smiths watching footie the whole time I expect.

O, contraire mon frer. We'll be watching the domestic variety (Metros v. DC United). I realize this probably will not do for a man of your discerning tastes, but we quite like the humble fare placed before us on the field of honor.
That said we probably will end up at Nevada's at some point to get our fill EPL.
Thanks for the recommendations.

I like Chelsea Brewing, in Chelsea Piers (West Side Highway around 23rd). Their beers are pretty solid and it's a good place to hang out, esp. in the afternoon - not too crowded. Decent food too. They brew for a few places in town, including Greenwich BC.
I was to the New Times Square Brewery last weekend (42nd, off Times Square). It was decent, but not a place to hang out and catch a game being in the heart of the tourist district.
David Copperfields (East Side - York and 74th) is a good spot with casks and a great selection. Great choice for a beer bar in Manhattan that you haven't been to.
In Brooklyn, none that I've been to, but there's Mugs, Waterfront Ale House and a couple of new ones that have opened up recently. Sorry, no additional details.

I personally haven't been to a Heartland location since last summer, but have heard recent reports that the beer is not what it used to be.
Seems to coincide with their centralizing the brewing process in Greenpoint and shipping to the locations.
If this is true, it's a shame because I really used to like going to the original Union Sq. location when my wife was working a couple of blocks from there.

Burp Castle is just a few doors away from McSorleys Ale House and within walking distance of DBA. They have a good selection of Belgian beers and the staff are all dressed as monks. Small place though. DBA has a great beer garden.
