Clipper City Brewing Co., Baltimore, MD 12 oz. bottle. From a (soon to be reciprocated) trade with the generous Mr. Chaz.
Golden in color with a slight haze from residual yeast (the label proclaims that the yeast won't kill you, and is only there to protect the beer). Thick white head that settles to a bubbly film with nice lacing.
Saaz hop nose with slightest malt and faint citric fruitiness coming through. Faint phenols and DMS apparent as the beer warmed, but not offensive.
Hop character predominant in flavor with sweet malt back. Slightest caramel notes without being as heavy as some ales with the same character. Nice crisp hop finish.
Medium body with a thick-ish, lightly syrupy mouth feel.
Very nice Pils reminiscent of Urquel but in a fresher, more full-of-character incarnation. Makes me wonder if this is what Urquel would taste like at its source.
In comparison, I had a local Pils from Goose Island (bottle) last week, and think I'd pick the Clipper City first due to more flavor character.
Thanks Chaz.
