View Full Version : porters
It's a tough question. It's especially fun to consider since stouts "grew" out of porters, as I remember. I'm no beer judge, so I don't have the real answer (I'll leave that to Steve H). I think porters are easier to drink and are often overlooked by beer drinkers. Great Lakes Brewing makes a fantastic porter if you can find it.

Porters were initially a mixture of a couple different brews and were called Entire Butt and became popular with the porters in England. I forget the publican who is credited with inventing it.

I was going to add that to my other answer too, but I'd already blathered on long enough. ;)

And the GL is the third beer listed alongside SN's and Anchor's as a good example of a Robust Porter in the BJCP Style Guide.
