I'm going to Newport this weekend for a couple of mansion tours and a couple of brews. We plan on making it up on Friday in time for Coastal Extreme's Open House (the site says get there on time -- does it get packed?). We'll also have a meal at Coddington Brewpub.

Any other suggestions, perhaps for a good bar to be at on Saturday night? Any help would be appreciated -- newportstorm, you out there?

thanks!

I'm here, bro. If you want to get into Newport Storm's Friday tour, get there NO LATER than 5:30. I know they have a max. of 75 people and over 150 showed up last week! Brent gives a good tour with 4 pints on the house.

Coddington has some decent grub. I was there last Saturday and they had the Blonde, Blueberry, IPA, Alt, Irish Stout, Irish Red and Barleywine on tap. Everything but the nitro Stout and Barleywine are available to go in growlers (actually, I didn't ask about the Barleywine, but I assume that at 9% abv, it's not - or it would be a premium $$).

Some better beer bars to hit are:

*Yesterday's - in Washington Square (at the end of cobblestoned Thames Street across from the courthouse). They had North Coast Red Seal, Gritty's Scottish, Celebration Ale, DFH Raison D'etre, Long Trail Hibernator, etc. last weekend. Outside of Yesterday's, Newport's pubs might have a few decent drafts on, but nothing like this selection.

*The Mooring - nice seafood restaurant on the waterfront - tap list isn't stellar (Anchor Steam is as good as it gets) but they have some different bottles like Orval, Duinen, Celebrator, etc.

*Brick Alley Pub - hit or miss, but the best they had on tap recently was Newport Storm Irish Red.

Other spots to consider (no guarantees, but I've had some luck on occasion): Aidan's, RI Quahog Company, Newport Blues Cafe.

Give me a yell if you have any freetime and want to meet up for a pint. Have a great time! Cheers!

Thanks for the great tips!

We'll definitely get to CE by 5:15-5:30.

We'll probably go to Coddington for Saturday dinner. If you're around, that might be a good time to meet for a pint. PM me if you're up for it.

Was in Newport last weekend. The Mooring had Trinty Brewpub's (Providence) IPA on tap. So if you want to get a taste of Providence without driving north, give it a shot. Trinity is hit or miss but their IPA is one of their tried and true brews, imo.

Also, The Wharf Pub has had Old Thumper on cask in the past. Haven't had great luck with food there, but decent beer in the small (and I mean small) bar area.

Also, Newport Storm Maelstrom IPA should be coming on tap at several places in town - nice beer. Enjoy Newport. It's a cool little town.

Cheers!

Yeah, when I was there the Maelstrom was in the fermenters. Really wanted a taste of it!

And I really like Old Thumper, never had it on cask, though. I think it would be a treat.

Just got back, thanks for the help.
Went to Yesterdays and had a few: Storm IPA, Red Seal, Fat angel (not good) Then to Aidans great little pub, liked the fact that they had Courage. Wednesday night I had to stick with the crowd and couldn't wander and experiment.

Thanks again.

Not good as in spoiled/bad or just not your favorite IPA? Was at Yesterday's last night and enjoyed some Storm IPA, Red Seal, Sierra Nevada Summerfest and Sherwood Forest Archers Ale. Glad you enjoyed Newport.

Cheers!
