Gorgeous amber brown color with reddish tones. Tan head forms, but fades fast, most likely due to the alcohol. (8%) Many doppelbocks I've had do that. Aroma is very malty, as it should be. Taste is almost all malt. There are some nice fruity notes in the middle and end, raisins, prunes and figs. Molasses and licorice notes as well. A quick, faint touch of hops comes and goes very quickly, you almost don't notice it. Finish is malty. The 8% alcohol is hidden well, but it is slightly noticeable. I live not far from a German restaurant that serves Optimator and Celebrator on tap, and I would put this beer next to them any time.

Super Necrophage Bump.
I've just recently been given a sixer of this; as is typical Bell's fashion, a big beer, high alcohol, big body. Very malty, almost syrupy and alcohol warmth. Recommended for bock lovers.

I had that beer about 2 years ago and I must say that I prefer the German bocks by a wide margin. Perhaps Bell's have improved it.

I am drinking this beer tonight. I believe that I could add anything to davesarman's post. I truly enjoyed this beer, My wife said that she would readily drink this as well. Pleased my tastebuds like the feeling I get stepping on to the ice with newly sharpened skates to finds that they were ground to just the way I like them.
