Yes, I am trying the Evil Diet once again and I am finding it very hard to stay on when I visit this forum. Especially Steveh's tasting notes. (I'll skip the Youngs Dirty Dick). Maybe I'm just a masochist but I keep reading about my favorite beverage and it makes me VERY thirsty. And of course it would be no good for my evil diet. I'm almost out of induction and I know Guinness is fairly low in carbs. Wonder if it would count as a meal? :D

I don't really want to get into to the whole atkins is bad/good debate, but I thought I would make a suggestion. I don't readily admit this to people, but since none of you know me personally (I hope). I have been on Weight Watchers for almost eleven months now and have lost 55 lbs. If you can get over the fact that most people that go to the meetings are women, it does seem to work. And the best part yet, you don't elimate any foods. The entire thing is based on points (points are calculated by calories, fiber, and fat). A typical beer is 3 points and I happen to get 28 points a day and 35 to spend as I see fit throughout the week. Plus if you excercise you earn more points. Sorry to give a commercial here but I thought I would offer an alternative.

That actually sounds pretty reasonable. I hate limiting choices of what I eat and drink. The Atkins diet has worked for me in the past but when you go off the weight eventually comes back. I don't want to debate it's merits either. We have had that discussion before here. But since I am addicted to this forum it sure becomes hard to maintain when I sit here reading about all those delectable beers. :)

Yeah, WW rules my dieting world. I just went back on this week. I originally lost around 25 lbs. and got to my goal weight, now I'm back up 12ish. I like the freedom of choices -- it's all about balance and portion control. It actually helps me pay attention to what I'm eating and I therefore make better eating decisions.

Interesting topic. I'm a firm believer in the old saying, "Moderation in Everything - Everything in Moderation". After my wife and I had our first child last summer, I decided it was time to shape up a bit. I've never been a big believer in diets or weight loss programs. I've always believed that diet and exercise are the keys. So about the end of January or beginning of February, I started doing some weight training in the mornings and paying very close attention to my diet. More food that grows and less that is manufactured. Portion control. Now that the weather is warming up, I'll be doing bike riding as well. However, I still have as much good, real beer as I like. I've lost about 15 pounds since January. And the key is, that this is not a diet I will be going off of. It's a lifestyle change.

And that's the thing about WW...it's labeled "diet", but it really is just teaching smart choices, thus creating a lifestyle change.

And exercise is a key element in any weight loss.

As far as I can tell it is breakfast in Ireland.

But seriously. Exercise is the key for me. I run so I can drink and eat pretty much what I want, although we try and eat fairly healthy (we rarely eat junk or fast food but like to splurge and eat out a lot on the weekends) but then that is a lot of pasta and other things that Dr Atkins wouldn't approve.

When I find I'm putting on the weight (like after a vacation) then I cut down on the food / beer and increase the running. Next week is the cherry blossom 10 miler......followed by a kriek tasting to keep it on the cherry theme.

Well one year and one day post op I am on the track to get rid of the weight I gained well not being able to do much of anything for better part of the year. I have always been a fairly active person, so I am sure as I slowly get back into old habits I will be good to go. I never drank much (hard to believe I know) and have always eaten fairly healthy so I have not gained the wieght like others who have the same affliction. I figure 20lbs will put me back where I want to be and after that it is just maintenance.

Funny thing about the WW. My wife is a manager for Applebees and they have it on the menu. When she is at work it is what chooses to eat, and the comments people make are astounding (my wife is 5' & 95lbs soaking wet). She usually gets the "why are you eating that, you're not overweight." She has come up with standard, "and it is because I make the choice to eat this that I am not overweight."

This might get us really off track, but I had heard applebee's was going to add those items to the menu. They haven't made their way up here yet, but I am looking forward to it. Brewmonkey, have you tried any of these yet? Are they any good?

I started eating about five or six small meals during the day instead of two or three large ones; steady fuel intake is the key, keeps your blood sugar levels even.

The sooner you eat after you wake up, the sooner your metabolism kicks in...another important factor.

I have disciplined myself to actually get to the gym three days a week and do an hour of kickboxing (heavy bag, not Tae Bo) twice a week...lost 11 lbs since mid January. I need to drop about 10 more to get down to 205-207...a good weight for me.

I've done this without cutting back one bit on my beer consumption...BONUS!!!

They are done quite well and taste is excellent. Not the "generic diet" taste of most diet food.

The store my wife works at is less then 20 miles from the corporate office, so they get quite a bit of the test market stuff well before it is released.
