If, as an American, you want to be mistreated and witness the American flag being burned, by all means go to the Beer Fest and contribute American dollars to a sorry Canadian province!
What's got me all riled up? Read the article on what happened to a US peewee hockey team that had the misfortune to travel to Montreal recently. It's at:
http://www.newsmax.com/showinsidecover.shtml?a=2003/4/3/101702
As much as I love micros, I won't spend one American cent in that french-wannabee rat's nest called Montreal.
I am retired military, with a year in Vietnam, and take flag-burning quite seriously. If one of you enemy sympathizers wants to burn one in my presence, be my guest. You'll be terribly sorry......

Screw you "mbritojr" for your disdain on all that is Canadian.
If you people want to boycott the Montreal beer festival, go ahead, as a Canadian I agree.
I also feel your pain at any and all anti-American sentiment coming out of the province of quebec.
But do not assosiate any political views coming out of quebec to the rest of Canada...that is a folly.
A very large percentage of English speaking Canadians are behind the Coalition forces in Iraq....we are the majority.
Realbeer.com as a political soap box...this is one"stupid Canuck" who is very disappoined that this site allows political bigotry to survive.
So again "mbritojr", up yours for your shallow attitudes against a country that always has been and remains to this day A Friend!!!!!

i thought cherokees were from the u.s.
I think that some of us have taken these "boycott" ideas just a bit too far. The organizer of the beer fest probably has nothing to do with the government officials that make the policies. He's running an event for people to enjoy a few good beers, and maybe have a discussion or 2 about events. Boycotts usually have little effect, and end up hurting the little guys. Chill out, have a cold or warm one, and enjoy the day!

what do goverment officials and policies have to do with the way american children were treated in montreal ? i say we boycott anything that has anything to do with montreal!
People who take out their views and hurt kids are idiots. All I'm saying is that there are idiots on both sides. When we start talking boycotts over small but vocal minority group actions, we have sunk to their level.

Chances are, when you enter into a boycott, you will do more harm than good. Our economy is so interlaced with the rest of the world that to boycott a particular region or whatever means potentially harming industries you never intended. Folger's French Roast? Grown in Costa Rica, packaged in Massachussettes. Army rations sent to the gulf? Produced in Indiana but owned by a French company. In fact, if you wanted to really boycott Canadian, German, French, or whoever's products, then you may as well lock yourself up in your house and stop breathing because our entire economy is heavily dependent on foreign investment and nearly everything you or I buy sends money all over Europe. It's the price we pay for globalization.

Sorry but it would not matter how drunk I was you could not get me to burn or in any way desecrate our Flag. I spent many years in the military (11B- Infantryman) and I swell with pride when ever I see old glory flying (I keep one flying 27/7/365). I also had the chance while in the service to train with the PPCLI (Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry) who I am sure would also take offense to your comments.

Dude, you seriously need a sense of humor. I don't imagine that guy's comments were meant to be taken to heart. Please don't further spread the stereotype that all former and current servicemen are so uptight that they can't either crack a smile or at least ignore someone's bad joke.

whats with the gun? shouldn't you have beer instead?
I like Cunucks-they are good people-there are wacked out people here too-in many parts of this country-especialy on the Left coast you can not show the flag-ask those San Fran police officers-I despise these folks-
However, since this is about beer- I say we boycot any brewery that imports beer into this country in clear or green bottles.
All we know and this still goes on.

I have a great sense of humor, but when someone even mockingly makes comments like that I take it to heart.
As for a stereotype, I'm not trying to spread anything I am just being me.

I am just as passionate about my weapons as I am beer (just not at the same time).

i think we already went over this on another thread about the gun , you use it for other sites right? nothing wrong with that i was just wondering is all. my father was a 101st airborn ranger who served two tours in vietnam and was a third degree black belt in jujitsu, he to loved his beer and loved his country. if he was still alive i think he would agree with you 100% , he didn't take flag burning lightly at all. i don't think anyone in thier right mind would even mention it in front of him ,as they knew he was not someone you would want to piss off.

I agree about those green glass concerns. Maybe brown glass costs more than green or clear. I do know that even the florescent lights in beer coolers have an adverse effect on beer. I usually try to pull mine from the back or from an unopened case. I also believe that green bottles may have played a large part in the demise of Chesbay brewing back in the 80s. At the brewery in Virginia Beach the beer tasted fine but on the shelf at the local Safeway it was hit or miss. Thier beer was bottled in green bottles and just did not hold up. I know they shared an order of green bottles with the Straub brewery of Saint Marys PA. Straub used to advertise thier beer in "Greenies" . When I bought their beer it was usually from a trek to the brewery and buying cases of 16oz, returnable, brown bar bottles. I did have an occasion to drink a "greenie" and again I thought it was not as good as the brown bottles. At the time, Straub was a glimmer in an otherwise dismal beer scene back in the late 70s and early 80s. I liked the crisp taste of their beer back then even though they were using adjuncts such as flaked maize. So we would make the 5 hour trip to the brewery every once in a while to stock up. The other good beer back then was also from PA. Yuengling Porter in the old steinie bottles. I have not had either in a long time. Hopefully Straub no longer uses the green bottles.

Sorry, Fretlessman, that you have to boycott me because I failed to boycott your boycott.
Want to join me for a La Fin du Monde and talk about the right people have to a different opinion even if they live in Canada?
If you boycott that idea, how about sharing a couple St Ambroise Oatmeal Stouts and boycott something really crappy, like Molsons.
I'll bring my tapes of Canadian Bacon and Strange Brew so we can do some soul searching.

I'd respond, but remember, I'm boycotting you.

Well, OK... but JUST THIS ONCE..... :)
I'd be thrilled to join you for a brew or two, but for whatever reason we don't get REAL Canadian beer down here in the south. Just Molson and Labatt's, I think. Send me some recommendations; I'm always in the mood for a new taste treat!
And yes, I believe that everybody has the right to their own opinion, and I also believe that this is a double edged sword... if you're going to flaunt your ideas and cast them upon the ears of the world, you can expect to have others do the same. If you don't agree with them, that's life.
Remember that disagreements between parties don't mean that either one of them doesn't have the right to their own opinion. It just means they don't see eye to eye. (I know this never happens, especially on THIS board, but, well, YOU know...)
