It seems that the compressor (AE 130AT-014 / AE1343A) decided to give up the ghost... Would it be cost effective to change to the R134 system?

Anyone know a repair guy in San Antonio, who'll work for homebrew?

Well, it turns out that the condenser cooling fan was bad. I replaced it last night and she's COLD this morning!! Yay!!

Now to rack the 4 beers into kegs!!

Glad to hear everything turned out alright for you. I tried to check which refrigerant your compressor was using and didn't have any luck. I'm also not sure what refrigerant most new refrigerators are using but I do know that R-134a is not a very efficient refrigerant. Most residential and commercial cooling is going to R-410a, which I have heard is very efficient but I doubt would work in refrigerators.

I did find this link that might be useful to you:

Thanks, Jeff! My kegerator is pretty old and it uses the R12... Good thing I don't have to mess with THAT!!

Cheers! Rocket

If the time comes that you need to do something with the refrigerant, R-134a does not directly replace R-12 and you will probably not achieve the temperatures you need in your fridge.

I believe you're right, Jeff! There ARE some other alternatives, though how expensive they are, I don't know...
