I know you can make dog biscuits from your spent brewing grains. I was supposed to get a recipe for this but I havent heard back from the person and I am going to brew today. Does anyone have a recipe for this. My dog would be very gratefull.
Thanks

found one, seems like a good starting place at least.
3 Cups spent grain
3 Cups flour
1 Cup corn meal
1/2 lb grated cheese
3 cubes bullion dissolved in 2/3 cups water
3 eggs
1/2 stick butter
3 teaspoons liquid smoke (optional)
Mix ingredients to a dry dough consistency. Roll out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into biscuits or use your favorite cookie cutter. Slow bake at 350 degrees until done. Flip the biscuits over, turn off the oven and let the biscuits cool with the oven off (this will make them crunchier).
(found at http://hbd.org/ford/newsletters/ford0398.html )
Anyone have any variations on this?

My dog tries to get the grain bag when I'm not looking, it never lasts long enough to make anything out of it...

that seems like a LOT of liquid smoke.... otherwise, I'm going to try this next time I brew...

i've heard that hops can cause a major alergic reaction in dogs. just be aware of this while you're using your leftovers for your pooch.

yeah I have heard that as well. My grains and my hops dont mix in my brewing process so its easy to keep em seperate.

I believe there was an earlier thread that hops can actually kill dogs. So, no giving Fido the Dogfish 120-minute IPA... ;)

Yeah, it kills them pretty efficiently. =/ Do a GIS and you'll come up with dozens of sites with hop/pet info.
Keep those hops away from the pets!

Am I the only crazy one here or does the bisquit recipe sound like it would really go well with a beer?
Nothing in it that I would not eat. Plenty of fiber in the spent grain. The flavors of beef, cheese and smoke sound awfully close to holiday cheese ball spreads.
Will someone out there try to make them thin and report back to the rest of us?
I make a GREAT brown bread with spent grain. "Grind" a couple of cups of spent grain in the food processor, add it to a brown bread recipe from Joy of Cooking, halving the molasses and replacing it with Karo syrup (light). It is heavy but really sweet and great with something like home made baked beans.

spent grain tastes like cardboard to me. however these bisquits arent that bad. Still I can think of many other snacks I would rather be chewing on :)
