I would be careful about using the trademarked name of another product (even with the word cloned).

I would think that as long as he is not trying to sell it he should be fine. I cant imagine them coming after someone for 5 gallons of something with their name on it. Thoug you are probabally right if one is very public about it you could piss someone off eventually.

Yeah you're right. I'm not going to use them after all. But it was fun playing with the software. Yeah, right.

I like 'em. What software were you using?

Oh, Please! Stop being so freakin' worried! You are neither infringing on their copyright nor diluting their copy right. There is no way that you are harming them. What is the worst that could happen? You might get a lawyer letter from them telling you to cease and desist. Wouldn't that be a great collectable over the bar!!
Go and have some fun. Nice labels by the way.

Nice labels elkshadow!! What did you use for software? I have played with MS Publisher and have come up with some "adequate" labels, but I really like yours.

I agree that they are pretty cool labels, and I, too, would like to know what software you are using!

I would just change the name to "Newclone Brown Ale" or something.
BTW The labels look great.

I thought about calling it Brewcastle. I probably will. Believe it or not, the software came with a $25 webcam I got at WM. Its called ArcSoft Photostudio 2000. I've only realized how great it is in the last couple of days.

lol nice one.
there was a BYOB label contest not too long ago.
personally I wouldn't worry at all about the copyright infringement issue. However, I might be inclined to not use the Newcastle name just because your beer is unique, regardless of whether the recipe clones a market brew. Uniqueness is one of the aspects about homebrewing that i truely value. just my 2 cents. For example, I htink if you going to go to the trouble to make labels (very nice labels btw) you might as well as come up with a name that describes you and your beer on a more personal level.

How can I make my own labels?

Get some kind of imaging software. You can probably get something free if you search around. Do a google image search for whatever you want your label picture to be. Save your favorite images to your hard drive. Open those images in your photo-whatever software, add some text and print them out on sticky paper. Voila!!

Hey elkshadow, really nice labels! Especially the #1. It would look good on a brown bottle. And the name Brewcastle would be great! Would make cool gifts for a beer lower.

If you are looking for some free/shareware stuff, go to www.tucows.com and search for it there. They have something for all the OS's, even those of us running Linux.
