So here is the question? What brand yeast do you use?

Even though I live in oregon, I prefer to use white labs.

I like white labs. For a while it was all I could get, but now I just am used to them and I know what to expect.

I like Wyeast, I like seeing the smack pack pouch puff up. Then I make a starter...

White Labs. They library my house strain for the brewery for me.

White labs all the way for me. I have to have my yeast shipped to me either way, as my LHBS caries Wyeast smack packs, but boy are they old (6 months +) so I don’t really trust them.

Plus there is no delay waiting for the pack to puff up and then make a starter. I just warm up for about 4-6 hours boils the starter, cool and pitch. I often don’t know until about 2 days before if I will have the time to brew (sometimes not even that)…so I still can make a starter. Or if I get a free few hours I can pitch without a starter (although I try not to do this).

I used to use Wyeast but once my lhbs ran out of the strain I use. He suggested a White Labs equiv. Worked great and have been using ever since. Now, I usually do two batches in a row using the same yeast.

I use Wyeast tubes almost exclusively. From time to time I'll use a White Labs tube to break up the monotony. I re-use my yeast 3-5 batches.

I usually just end up pitching a tube of white labs without a starter. Sometimes, it goes in a few hours. Sometimes it takes 3 days. Once I did a starter with one and had it bubbling within an hour. That's nice, but I don't know if it was worth the extra cost. Wyeast has always been slower for me, and I had my only stuck fermentation with it.

White Labs. Great company and a super product. Never had a single problem with their strains.

Started with Wyeast. Switched to White Labs. Had some trouble getting my gravities down to where I was used to them being so...

...went back to Wyeast.
