"Beer is good food,"
That is why I'll often have a beer meal! :D

I still think a balanced meal includes a cheeseburger and a porter.

A cheeseburger is way too filling! I like the soft pretzel with a couple of pints. The pints fill you up and the pretzel soaks up the alcohol and cleanses your palate. Not very Atkins friendly though! :)

Yeah, but Atkins is dead, so that shouldn't be a problem anymore! :D

I think you speak too soon. I can't believe all the low carb crap that's out there now. Hopefully this fad fades as quickly as "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". :D

The first fad diet I do is the all beer diet (you got grains, hops is a veggie, right? and there's some fruit in there sometimes).
I could be the next Jarod! ;)

Yep, beer has all of the major food groups in one compact size!

AFA beer being good for us, we've been saying that for a long time around here, haven't we? It's definitely what I was trying to tell my parents back in college!

So that's why I always feel better after a couple of beers!
Any bets on what the next diet fad is gonna be? Remember pre-Atkins when everything started coming out with a "Fat Free" version? Ahhhh, the good ole days...

The Atkins "fad" has been around for over 20 years.

LOL! That is probably so true!

I've been trying to convince my girlfriend that beer is good for you for a while. She points to the Surgeon General warning that Alcohol consumtion may cause cancer. But I'm pretty sure only liver cancer and only if you drink a lot at one time. I mean they make mice die by making them drink too much water. Or feeding them only sweet and low. Too much of anything is bad. So I try to tell her that alcohol can actually be good for you. It can clean out your system of toxins, and Beer is nutritious. All things in moderation though.

Well, I feel better now about my beer drinking. Every time I have a pint now I can think that I'm having a healthy snack ;)
J.
Ps. And when eating something unhealthy with beer they cancel each other out, right?

Beer goes with any food? Please remember:
BEER CAN BE FOOD, BUT FOOD CAN NEVER BE BEER!

Beer causes cancer? Did I miss something? The Surgeon General's statement says that pregnant women shouldn't consume alcohol because of the risk of birth defects, and that consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs the ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause "health problems" (yeah, stumbling to your car and falling face-first into the cement is definitely unhealthy), but nothing about cancer.
Oh well, as I've often said, "Eat right, exercise, die anyway." :/

I think he means that beer is bad for you only if it comes from a can, sir. :D
I know. Stupid as hell. Couldn't resist.
cirrhosis of the liver, accidents, and od suicides--have been associated with excessive alcohol intake.
This is taken from http://www.mcspotlight.org/media/reports/surgen_rep.html . Note that cirrhosis of the liver, accidents, and od suicides all only happen with severly excessive drinking.
Also this page talks about Alcohol and cancer. http://www.healthcastle.com/alcoholandcancer.shtml Notice it also says that in moderation, Alcohol consumption is fine.

My wife 1ce lost 10 pounds doing the Beer Diet. The trick is to not have anything else with the beer, except another beer.

I own a health club and if I had a pint for every time someone says they are on the Atkin's diet I would be a happy man. :D

im going back to the cheese burger thing here..
why do they say cheeseburgers are bad for you???
it's a well rounded meal! with all four food groups!
dairy = the cheese
fruit & veg = lettuce, tomatos ect.
meat & poultry = the patty
bread & cereal = the buns
and if you throw in a beer you have the hop and barley groups too!

And therein lies the true key.
Fortunately, I don't smoke (even gave up the casual cigar because I realized I just didn't like it) and I've been paying better attention to my diet lately.
Of course, the occasional Real Ale Festival probably doesn't help the cause too much...

I can't remeber who,ie Thomas Jefferson..Ben Franklin..Winston Churchill, said that moderation in all things is good including moderation. Or something very close to that. Must be he was a beer drinker.
