Is anyone familiar with Spinnaker's Brewpub & Guesthouse, in Victoria, BC? I saw their add in the back of NW Brewing News. They were voted the best pub in Victoria by the local CAMRA chapter, that has to be worth somthing! I looked at the web page, and it looks nice enough. What about the beer? What's good about Victoria? Thanks for any info.
Cheers,
Bill

Ah Spinnakers, a treat not only to the tastebuds, but to the soul of a beer lover.

Back in my Victoria (read: University) days, I spent many an evening in Spinnakers, on the deck overlooking the luminescent Victoria harbour, imbibing in some of the finest ales north of the 49th.
My favorites are the Mitchells ESB:
Mitchell's Extra Special Bitter: A reddish, copper-coloured ale with a complex malty body derived from English Pale and Crystal Malts hopped with pitchings of Northern Brewer, Cascades and U.S. Kent Golding for a subdued bitterness and flowery hop aroma.
(Ninkasi note: named after John Mitchell, an original publican of Spinnakers and fondly referred to as Canada's grandad of beer)
and the IPA:
India Pale Ale: A strongly hopped pale ale based on the Pale Ales exported from Burton-on-Trent to India.
The Guest house that Paul Hadfield (THE publican) has created is beyond great. Bed and breakfast, self-contained suites screaming originality and class. I was fortunate enough to spend an evening in one of his rooms (he's also an architect), and was delighted to find freshly squeezed OJ and the daily rag on my stoop in the AM. Every nuance covered. Spa treatment at a brewpub. Novel.
If you're in the hood, hit it. Tell them I sent ya:cool:
