If you purchased $1,000 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.
With Enron, you would have $16.50 left of the original $1,000.
With Worldcom, you would have less than $5.00 left.
But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of Coors (the beer, not the stock) one year ago, drank all the beer, and then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling price, you would have $214.
Therefore, current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
It's called the "401-Keg Plan."

So I have to know, did you figure this out or find it elsewhere?

Someone sent me the email. I would have gone broke because I NEVER drink Coors even though they have a brewery in Virginia.

I remember this email from a long time ago, (and because my wife is upstairs watching "my big fat obnoxious fiancee" ) I decided to look these up at current and 1 year ago prices....
Worldcom/MCI (MCWEQ.PK) Feb 24, 2003, $0.17. Today, $0.07.
Nortel (NT) Feb 24, 2003, $2.03. Today, $7.60.
Enron (ENRNQ.PK) Feb 24, 2003, $0.05. Today, $0.07.

what if i purchased $1,000 of sierra nevada? lets see, i can get it for about $25/case.. so, thats 40 cases * 24bottles/case = 960 bottles * $0.10/bottle returned = $96!
still better than the alternatives, plus i'd have pissed a lot less than if i'd bought coors, so i easily saved another $100 on the water bill!

Really?
What do they brew there?
As for your figures, how did you come up with the figure of $214?
Would this include the stock price AND the aluminum scrap value?
(Latest stock figures show it trading about $55-60 & aluminum scrap going for .45/lb around here.)
Just curious.

And if I'd put a second mortage on the house to buy Nortel stock when it was 80 cents a few months ago, then held it until it hit $12 a couple weeks ago, I'd be living mortage free and could buy all the expensive micro beers I wanted.:(
